The Macon County Fair cake committee is looking forward to selecting the 2011 “Best Cake in Macon County.” If you have a special cake recipe that has been handed down through the generations or one that always disappears first at the church suppers, why not enter it in the “Best Cake in Macon County” contest.
Entries will be accepted on Saturday, Sept. 17, between 10 and 11 a.m. at the Macon County Fair Pavilion. Entry forms are found in the Fair catalogue or can be filled out the day of the contest. Judging will begin at 11 a.m. at the pavilion. All entries and recipes become the property of the Macon County Fair. Recipes and photos may be printed in the 2012 Macon County Fair Cookbook.
Following the judging, announcement of the “Best Cake in Macon County” and picture taking, the entries and recipes will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. All proceeds go to the Macon County Fair. This contest is separate from the baked products, which are entered on Tuesday and judged on Wednesday.
Contestants are advised to have the cake on a sturdy piece of foil-covered cardboard. The cardboard should extend one inch beyond the cake on all sides. Place the cake in a large, clear foodgrade bag. (A turkey roasting bag works well.)
An accurate typed or clearly handwritten recipe must be submitted with each cake entry. The recipe must be separate from the cake so that it can be copied.
This contest is open to amateur non-professional bakers only.
