Arts & Entertainment Postponed free Vanessa Carlton concert rescheduled for Valentine’s Day at WCU

Vanessa CarltonTo borrow a phrase from her biggest hit, Vanessa Carlton will be “making her way downtown” to perform a free concert at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, in the Grandroom of Western Carolina University’s A.K. Hinds University Center.

The concert is presented by WCU’s Department of Residential Living and the University Center.

Carlton is a singer-songwriter and pianist best known for her song “A Thousand Miles” from the album “Be Not Nobody.” She also has been nominated for two Grammy Awards for record of the year and song of the year in 2003, as well as an American Music Award.

Carlton was picked by WCU students who were polled on different artists they would like to see in concert on campus. The concert was originally scheduled for Jan. 10 to kick off the start of the spring semester, but was postponed due to a major snow storm. It is part of the many Resolution 2011 events held around campus that are designed to help students get involved in the Western Carolina University community, said Mistie Bibbee, associate director for residence life.

“The Resolution events began last year as a Welcome Back Week in an effort to start off spring semester with the same excitement as fall semester,” Bibbee said.

The Grandroom is located on the third floor of the University Center. The doors will open at 7 p.m.

For information, call the University Center office at 828-227-7206.
