Arts & Entertainment Annual Mother’s Day Gemboree coming May 11-13

The 11th annual Mother’s Day Gemboree will convene at the Macon County Community Facilities Building beginning Friday, May 11, and running through Sunday, May 13.Mother’s Day weekend will be a busy time in Franklin as the 11th Annual Mother’s Day Gemboree opens its doors on May 11. The event will be held at the Macon County Community Building located just off Highway 441 south of Franklin. This show, sponsored by the Franklin Chamber of Commerce, complements two other well known gem and mineral shows held here in July and October. Franklin continues to earn its name as “The Gem Capital of the World.”

This year’s Mother’s Day Gemboree will be held Friday through Sunday, May 11 to 13, with doors open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Sunday.

“Some of the nation’s finest gem and mineral dealers will display and sell everything from fine jewelry to rough and cut gems and minerals.” said Linda Harbuck, Executive Director of the Franklin Chamber of Commerce. “These folks will be offering everything from diamonds and precious stones to beads and costume jewelry. There’s something for everyone’s budget and the perfect Mother’s Day gift can be found.

Admission is only $2 for adults with those under 12 years of age admitted free. Be sure to look for discount admission coupons in area newspapers. Those who attend will also be registered to win great door prizes.

In addition to the Gem Show, Franklin area businesses will be celebrating “Airing of the Quilts” on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stores and downtown churches will be decorated with quilts. After visiting downtown, tour the Macon County Quilt Trail. Along the way you’ll find demonstrations and more in the Historic West’s Mill District in the Cowee Community. You can participate as well by airing a quilt at your home or business.
