Arts & Entertainment Cruisin’ in the Mountains coming to Franklin

Get ready for a walk back in time with the first annual “Cruisin in the Mountains” Car, Truck and Bike Show being held Oct. 5 and 6, at Southwestern Community College’s Driving Course on Industrial Park Loop (US 64 West).

Registration is now being accepted at the Franklin Chamber of Commerce. Registration forms can be downloaded from the Chamber’s website at www.VisitFranklinNC.com or can be picked up at the Chamber Visitor Center.

The kick off will take place Friday with a Cruise In and Show pre-registration. The Cruise In is free of charge for both car owners and spectators. Gates will open at 5:30 and close at 8 p.m. Early registration fee for Saturday’s show is only $15 per car/truck/bike and will be accepted until 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.

Saturday’s show will feature vehicles from Antiques and Classics to Late Models. Saturday’s gate admission will be $5 for adults with children 12 & under will be admitted free.

Vehicle registration the day of the show will be open from 8 to 9 a.m. and is $20 per car/truck/bike. All entries being judged must register by 9 a.m. Prize money will be awarded to first place in each class with trophies going to the first three places in each class.

Saturday will also feature a Cornhole Tournament at 10 a.m. Registration is open with forms available at the Franklin Chamber. The registration fee is $25 per team with a cash payout for first place, second and third place based on the number of participants.

A “People’s Choice Award,” sponsored by NAPA, will be given to the entry with the most spectator votes. First place will be awarded $350 and second place will receive $150.

In addition to the car show and Cornhole tournament, come out and enjoy food including “Cruise Back In Time hot dogs and chips,” vendors and door prizes. With each paid gate entry, spectators will receive an entry for the door prizes and an opportunity to vote on the “People’s Choice Award.” In addition, the local car dealerships are also sponsoring choosing the Best General Motors entry, the best Mopar entry and the best Ford entry respectively. There will also be a cash payout for each of these winners.
