The Jackson County Public Library will host a free Aikido class for adults (ages 16 and up) taught by Timm Muth on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m.
Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art. It is considered a "soft" art that utilizes a variety of throws, pins, and off-balancing techniques to defend against an attack without necessarily harming the attacker. It does not require undue physical strength and can be practiced by almost anyone.
Instructor Timm Muth, of White Dragon Academy in Sylva, began his martial arts training in 1975, and studied Aikido for 15 years under Sensei Ned Danieley of Chapel Hill and Shihan Fumio Toyoda of Chicago. For his program at the Library, he will instruct attendees in the basics of Aikido.
Class size is limited to the first 10 people ages 16 and over to sign up, and participants should wear comfortable clothing.
