Elementary school-age children and their families are invited to Holiday ARTSaturday, the Arts Council’s free monthly crafts and music workshop, on Saturday Dec. 1, 10 a.m. to noon, in the old Cowee Elementary School gym. The Arts Council provides all materials for make-and-take projects including evergreen swags, paper poinsettias and garlands, holiday collage cards, decorated Christmas cookies, painted bisque ornaments and more, along with caroling to live music by keyboardist Lionel Caynon, and refreshments. No pre-registration required; children should wear play clothes and come for any part of the session. Adults stay with their children.
The former Cowee School is on Cowee Creek Road, seven miles north of Franklin off the Bryson City Road, Highway 28. The event is sponsored by the Joe Suminski Family to honor their grandmothers, Anne Gallup and Colleen Suminski. The workshop is produced by the Arts Council of Macon County with help from Friends of the Rickman Store, and is supported by the Grassroots Arts Program of the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.
