A full day of mountain music and traditional storytelling has been organized by the Friends of the Rickman Store on Saturday, Dec. 15, to celebrate the holidays and to close the store for the winter.
The celebration will open at 11 a.m. with the performance of the Nikwasi Dulcimer Players led by Sally DeLawter.
Playwright Gary Carden, recently recognized with the 2012 North Carolina Award for Literature by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, will follow at 2 p.m. sharing stories about Christmas celebrations in the mountains.
The afternoon will close with the performance of The Joe Pye Band with mandolin player Dave Stewart, bass player Chuck Dorling, banjo player Curtiss White and guitarist Chris Casses. Refreshments will be served.
This is an opportunity for visiting this historic building in the heart of the Cowee-West Mill Historic District and for enjoying the fellowship that characterizes this community.
