After recording two new CDs with its new members, local gospel group Gem City got a phone call from Les Beasley of the National Quartet Convention.
“Les called me and said that he had been listening to our new project,” said Marshall Henson, founder of the group. “He said he thought the CD was very good.”
Beasley invited Gem City to sing in a National Quartet Convention contest held last September in Louisville, Ky.
Many groups sang, but later that day, Beasley and his son, Clark, called Henson and told him that they had won the contest.
Gem City’s newest CD is called “Convention Style” and features some old favorites such as “Victory in Jesus,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Rainbow of Love.” The group travels all over the country to sing their brand of gospel music. Current members of the group include: Nathan Parrish, tenor; Alex Utech, bass; Bobby Ginn, lead singer; Andrew Utech, baritone and Marshall Henson, harmony.
