A benefit concert featuring the “Best of the Best” will be presented on Friday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts. Groups participating are the Rye Holler Boys, Dueling Piano Players, WestSound, and Sherri Lynn and the Mountain Friends Band. Special emcee for the evening will be Franklin’s own Ms. Patti.
The Rye Holler Boys are slated to perform gospel and bluegrass favorites. This award winning group has played at various venues and festivals all over Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee and opened for The Issacs and the legendary Earl Scruggs in Cashiers.
Asheville’s WestSound will bring the best of blues, funk, and R&B to the stage and Franklin native Regina Duke will be welcomed back to her hometown. Cathey Gray and Michael Conard will entertain on dueling pianos. Asheville’s Sherri Lynn and The Mountain Friends Band’s blend of bluegrass, pop, country, and comedy has been entertaining audiences for more than 25 years.
Tickets for this evening are $12. All proceeds will be donated to the Rathbun Center in Asheville, whose “Making Room for Children” campaign, has a $1.1 million goal to expand and renovate the facility to accommodate guests with children. This campaign will also increase the Center’s overall capacity by 44 percent, which will help accommodate the many families on the waiting list each day.
The Rathbun Center’s mission is to keep families together during times of critical illness by providing lodging and other supportive services, free of charge, for patients and their caregivers who are in Asheville for medical treatment.
