Arts & Entertainment Go back in time with Cruisin’ in the Mountains Car Show

Get ready for a walk back in time with the second annual “Cruisin in the Mountains” Car, Truck and Bike Show held Oct. 4 and 5, at Southwestern Community College’s Driving Course on Industrial Park Loop (US 64 West).

If you have a car, truck or bike you want to show off, we will have a spot for you. Registration is now being accepted at the Franklin Chamber of Commerce. Registration forms can be picked up at the Chamber Visitor Center at 425 Porter Street.

Friday will kick off with a Cruise In and show pre-registration. The Cruise-In is free of charge for both car owners and spectators. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and close at 7 p.m. Early registration fee for Saturday’s show is $20 per car/truck/bike and will be accepted until 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4. Purchase a grilled hot dog, chips and drink for the “Cruise Back In Time” low price of $3.

Saturday’s show will feature vehicles from antiques and classics to late models and rat rods. Saturday’s gate admission will be $3 for adults while children 12 & under will be admitted free. Vehicle registration the day of the show will be open from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and is $25 per car/truck/bike. All entries being judged must register by 9:30 a.m. Prize money will be awarded to first place in each class with trophies going to the first three places in each class.

Saturday will also feature a craft/vendor area. Space is still available with vendor forms available at the Franklin Chamber. The registration fee is $25 per booth. Have a car for sale or looking for a used car to buy? There will be a car corral with cars for sale. Simply register for the car show and request to be in the “Car Corral.” Also new this year will be a “Swap Meet” area. If you have car, truck or bike parts for sale, be sure to reserve your vendor space.

Organizers are inviting emergency vehicles from this area to join the show including fire, rescue and police. Come out and cast a special vote for your favorite fire department.

A “People’s Choice Award,” sponsored by Parts City, will be given to the entry with the most spectator votes. First place will be awarded $350 and second place will receive $150.

In addition to the car show, come out and enjoy food, vendors and door prizes. With each paid gate entry, spectators will receive an entry for the door prizes and an opportunity to vote on the “People’s Choice Award.”

For additional information or registration forms, contact the chamber or visit www.VisitFranklinNC.com or call (828)524-3161. This event is sponsored by Southwestern Community College Car Club & the Franklin Chamber of Commerce.
