Franklin’s own Overlook Players have announced the cast for this spring’s large scale performance of Rogers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. The play will be presented April 14-17 at the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts and will be directed by the Center’s Artistic Director, Scotty Corbin. This show is sponsored by The Christian Training Center International in Franklin.
This beloved musical set in Austria during World War II, tells the story of a young woman, Maria (played by Heather Lenox), who is struggling to find her way as a nun.
On the advice of the Mother Abbess (played by Doris McConnell), Maria leaves the convent to determine what she wants from life and takes a position as governess to the seven children of a widower, Captain Von Trapp (played by Darren Volk). Love blossoms between Maria and the Captain as the young nun fills the lives of the Von Trapp family with music and joy.
The cast also includes stage veterans Nikki Corbin, Brett Schultz, Mike McSwain, Kathie Eldredge, Samuel Crabtree, Kathi Graham, Doug Egge, David Spivey, Steve Crabtree, Robert Jessup, and Betsey Gooder, among others.
The Sound of Music includes such well-loved songs as “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Every Mountain,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” and “My Favorite Things.” This production will warm your heart and leave you humming long after the curtain falls.
