The Friends of the Rickman Store invite the community to the re-opening of the historic Rickman Store in Cowee this Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Different activities will be offered as part of the Quilt Trail Festival that will be taking place that day in different points of Macon County.
Author, songwriter and singer Barbara Duncan will perform at the Store at 2 p.m. offering songs from her first CD “Music Says Go.” Duncan received the Brown Hudson Folklore Award in 2008 for contributions to the study of North Carolina folklore. Her first book of poetry, Crossing Cowee Mountain, was published by New Native Press, Tuckaseegee, N.C. Currently, Duncan works as education director at the Museum of the Cherokee Indian in Cherokee
The Nikwasi Dulcimer Players will also be at the Store at 11 a.m. During the day, visitors can participate in an art project creating a quilt square under the guidance of artist in residence Kathrine Cays. The Cowee Quilters will be at the Pleasant Hill AME Church on Snow Hill Road.
