Arts & Entertainment 27th Dillsboro Arts & Music Festival is June 11

Artisans fill the streets while music fills the air during the 27th annual Dillsboro Arts & Music Festival on Saturday, June 11.

The free festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the historic walkabout village of Dillsboro.

Featured will be two dozen juried artisans from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Attendees can browse and purchase a variety of crafts, including: pottery, paintings, metal works, gourde art, hand-made jewelry, wood carvings, basket weaving, quilts and homemade soaps.

There will also be raku and horse-hair pottery demonstrations all day beside Tree House Pottery.

“The quality of the art and music makes this one of the better down-home arts festivals in Western North Carolina,” says event co-chair Joe Frank McKee. “When you combine the artists with Dillsboro’s unique shops, you get a wonderful day of family entertainment and shopping.”

The music portion of the day will be handled by Rock III, an upand- coming band from nearby Cullowhee. The band will play an energetic show from noon to 3:30 p.m. that includes an acoustic set. Rock III performs rock ’n roll hits from the ’80s, ’90s and today.

“Their music is crisp and lively. The band members really put on a show; they’re very interactive with the crowd,” McKee says. “And the Dillsboro Merchants Association enjoys this annual opportunity to welcome artisans and visitors to Dillsboro.”

Prior to Rock III’s performance, the Spirit of Appalachia organization takes the stage for live storytelling from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Food vendors will also be on hand, and free parking is available.
