Book signing, exhibitions and Mountains in Bloom shine at The Bascom this summer.

Here’s what’s happening at The Bascom:

— Ann Strub will be at The Bascom on Friday, June 17, from 4-5 p.m. signing her book, “Ann Strub Paints Her Muse,” a celebration of the artist, her mother and the rich history of New Orleans. Ann Strub’s Story Telling with Paint membership reception is from 5-7 p.m. Become a member of The Bascom and enjoy the artist’s figurative and narrative painting presentation. Bascom memberships start at $35.

The Franklin Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with “The Glass Slipper Natural Beauty Pageant” announces the 2011 Mountain High BBQ Festival Pageant.

The 2011 Mountain High BBQ Festival Pageant is a Natural Pageant for girls ages birth to 16 years old. The pageant will be held at the 3rd Annual Mountain High BBQ Music Festival & Car Show on Aug. 13, at the Wayne Proffitt Agricultural Center beginning at 1 pm. Registration forms can be picked up at the Franklin Chamber of Commerce or downloaded from www.MountainHighBBQ Festival. com. The BBQ Festival will be held Friday & Saturday, Aug. 12 & 13 with the gate opening at 11 a.m.

The Jackson County Green Energy Park is offering a new round of blacksmithing courses this summer. The courses are being taught by blacksmith Brock Martin, and are taking place during the weekends, through the weekend of June 25. The course offerings are as follows:

— Parent/Child Blacksmith Class Saturday & Sunday, June 18-19, 1-6 p.m.

A course designed as a cooperative learning experience, participants will learn basic blacksmithing through the creation of a simple object. From there, they will apply those skills to create larger tools, such as a grill set. Come with ideas for a project, as well.

Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Hotel is offering free concerts in the Entertainment Lounge Friday, June 17, and Friday, June 24 for two shows, at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Tone Loc is the artist for the June 17 show. He is a rapper and actor with hit single “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina.”

On June 24, Shock G, the mastermind behind the Digital Underground, will be performing, at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.
