With fall in full swing, crafters of all kinds gathered last weekend to showcase their handiwork at the three-day Autumn Leaves Craft Show at the Macon County Fairgrounds. There was no shortage of attendance either, with more than 1,000 people reportedly attending the event throughout Oct. 13-15.

Artists from around the region were readily available to discuss or even demonstrate their craft, while outside food vendors sold funnel cakes, lemonade, corn dogs and hot chocolate to good-spirited visitors. The sounds of the Nikwasi Dulcimer Players augmented the rustic atmosphere.

This year marks The 19th Annual Smoky Mountain Fall Art & Craft Festival to be held Friday, Oct. 21, and Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Macon County Fair Grounds on 441S, in Franklin.

The fair grounds will be festively decorated to enhance the season, the artists and crafters booths will be filled to the brim with the most unique handmade crafts you’ll find anywhere. The air will be filled with the sweet sounds of live music and the great smells of all your favorite festival foods which you can take home or enjoy in our covered pavilion.

The vibrant hues of autumn come to life Saturday, Oct. 22, at the third annual “ColorFest, Art of the Blue Ridge” showcase.

ColorFest transforms downtown Sylva into a Paris-like setting with fine artists painting at easels along Main Street, surrounded by the wonderful fall foliage of North Carolina’s mountains.

Joining the painters in this colorful endeavor is a variety of other artists, showcasing their talents in: glass, clay, sculpture, fiber art, caning, wood carving, ceramics and fine furniture.

New Green Energy Park resident artist, glass blower Tadashi Torii won Best in Show recently at MeccaFest Fine Arts Festival in Carrollton Cultural Arts Center Downtown Carrollton, Ga. One of the most popular fine arts festivals in the Southeast voted best annual event by readers of Georgia Magazine.

Torii and his partner, artist Corina Pia, are both participating at the upcoming ColorFest in Sylva on Oct. 22.

Jackson County Friends of the Library bookstore has art by both artists on display and is hosting the live demonstrations the day of the festival. A Jackson County radio interview featuring the two artists will go on air the day of ColorFest Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. Listen on-line at www.storiesofmountainfolk.com.
