Chicks! It’s All Gone to the Birds opens at The Bascom on March 31 and runs through June 17. Join us in celebrating the fascinating world of our feathered friends. A true celebration of the freedom of flight, this exhibition is presented in partnership with the Highands Biological Station and the Highlands Plateau Audubon Society. Support for this exhibition is provided by Nancy and Larry Fuller; Audubon North Carolina; and Delta Air Lines.

In conjunction with the exhibition, The Bascom is hosting a number of “avian” related programs.

A warm, funny play adapted from Mark Twain’s Diaries of Adam and Eve will be presented for one performance only on Sunday April 1 at 2:30 by the Licklog Players. Directed by the wonderful Edie Kleinpeter, the play will be the first event in the Players new Creek Side venue. This play is a special extra event and precedes the opening play of the 2012 season, “The Fantasticks.”

Two of Licklogs most popular actors, Michael Lindsay and Debbi Timson play Adam and Eve. Lisa Maliska will play the Serpent.

Theater goers may remember Lindsay and Timson in last year’s “Wait Until Dark.”

On Monday March 1, 2012 the six art teachers of Macon County Schools got together to plan the Third Annual Student Art Exhibition.

The morning was spent getting mats for the students’ work, discussing the awards, planning the day-before-the-event activities and deciding how many pieces of artwork each school will bring. The teachers also discussed the possibility of having ice cream sundaes and live music from the FHS Jazz Band.
