Kathy Passmore DillsKathy Passmore Dills

Kathy Passmore Dills, 61, of Trinity, N.C., formerly of Nantahala Community, Topton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012. She was a native of Macon County, but had lived in Trinity for the past 35 years. She retired after 35 years from Carolina Business and presently was working with Trinity High School as a custodian. Kathy was a faithful member of the New Heights Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of Mary Jo Grant Passmore of Nantahala and the late Willard G. Passmore. She was the wife of the late Rudolf Dills, who died May 11, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son, Christopher Passmore.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a daughter, Misty Cox and husband, Chris of Thomasville, N.C.; three sisters, Patricia Postell and husband, George of Andrews, Linda Morgan and husband, Hubert of Nantahala, and Judy Passmore of Morganton; a brother, Goldman Passmore and wife, Linda of Andrews; and three grandchildren, Abigail Dills, and Taylor and Matthew Cox.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 17, in Red Marble Baptist Church with the Revs. Roger Porter, Daniel Stewart, and Mickey Stewart officiating. Interment was Saturday, Aug. 18, in the Bethel Hill Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers were Josh Passmore, Brandon and Mikel Morgan, Wesley Holden, Robert Gee, and Justin Postell. Honorary pallbearers were Nathan Postell, Tristen Smith, Scott and Richard Passmore, and Wade Morgan.

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Kathy Passmore Dills to the Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o J.D. Owenby, 995 Junaluska Road, Topton, NC 28781.

Ruth Ellen BarberRuth Ellen Barber

Ruth Ellen Barber, 88, of Otto, N.C., passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2012.

Born in Batavia, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Ward Newton Barber and Lillian Mary Drees Barber. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rose Mary Mcguagge. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her adopted daughter of 15 years, Christie Mace and husband Larry of Otto; three grandchildren, Colton Harden and wife Rebecca, Adrian Mace and Ethan Mace and great-grandson, Matthew Harden.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at the home of Larry and Christie Mace. Memorial donations can be made to Angel Hospice General Fund, 170 Church Street, Franklin, NC 28734.

Ozias M. WhitmonOzias M. Whitmon

Ozias “Ozzie” M. Whitmon, 90, of Franklin, N.C., passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012.

Born in Brilliant, Ala., he was the son of the late Monroe and Virgin Webb Whitmon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. He was proud to be a WWII veteran. He graduated from Bob Jones University and received his Masters Degree from Furman University. As a tax accountant, he was one of the first to use Drake Software. He was a member of Lion’s Club International with 41 years of perfect attendance and lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a very active participant of the Senior Games. Ozzie was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. He frequently quoted his favorite Bible verse, John 16:33. He also was a regular at the Pickin’ on the Square, and loved to square dance.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Light Herman and husband Mark Herman of Franklin; sister, Edrell Sanders of Topeka, Kan.; granddaughter, Keri Vephula of Franklin; great granddaughter, Satori Stewart of Franklin and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Eddie Trull will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family to put with their contributions to the Franklin Lion’s Club and Macon County Senior Games in honor of Ozzie, C/O Linda Light Herman, 22 September Embers Dr, Franklin, NC 28734.

Robert Cabe

Robert Cabe, 82, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2012. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Harley and Ida Elliott Cabe. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a carpenter and liked to hunt, fish, and garden and loved being outdoors. He was a member of Mashburn Branch Baptist Church and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nell Gibson Cabe; one daughter, Shirlene Spradlin and husband Melvin of Franklin; two sisters, Margie Lee Hooper of Franklin, and Dora Lee Garrett of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Wiley Cabe of Franklin; three grandchildren, Amanda McMahan and husband Robert, Jody Spradlin and LeeAnn Higdon and husband Brandon; and six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Austin, Blake, Brandon and Kaylyn McMahan and Mia Higdon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy, Albert, Carl and Luther Cabe and a grandson, Kevin Eugene Spradlin.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Dendy and Rev. Ben Cabe officiating. Burial will be in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clyde McCall, Billy Hurst, Tom Riles, Earl Holland, Danny Hooper, Jay Hooper, Ronnie Hooper and Isaac Gibson. Carl Angel will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends, Friday from 10 to 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 514 Daniels Street #109, Raleigh, NC 27605.
