Menford ‘Bo’ Oleemon SimpsonMenford ‘Bo’ Oleemon Simpson

Menford “Bo” Oleemon Simpson, 73, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012. Born in Richmond County, Ga., he was the son of the late Rufus and Edith Bonnett Simpson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy; a retired meat cutter from Kroger in North Augusta, S.C.; a member of Pine Grove School Association. He loved his mountains and his dog, Bubba, his loyal and faithful friend; made excellent catfish stew and loved the simple life and nature. He was a member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga.

He is survived by his wife of eight years, Sandra Fisher Simpson; two daughters, Carol Rollins of North Augusta, S.C., and Terrie Pate and husband Mitch of Sylvester, Ga., step-daughter Sarah Berry of North Augusta, SC; special son, Chris Rollins of North Augusta, S.C. and step-sons, Kevin Maxfield of Johnson, Vt., Brett Maxfield of North Augusta, S.C. and Dylan Maxfield of Franklin; one sister, Laverne Faulk and husband Donnie of Appling, Ga. and one brother, Kenneth Simpson and wife Lynne of Appling, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Sept. 15, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Rogers officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church Brotherhood Fund, 7454 Highlands Road, Franklin, NC 28734.

Harry Lee YoderHarry Lee Yoder

Harry Lee Yoder, 64, of Franklin, N.C., formerly of Brunswick County, N.C., passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2012. Born in Durham, N.C., he was the son of the late Francis Marion and Hallie Claiborne Yoder. He was a flight medic for the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.

He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed visiting all his friends in Franklin. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Carolina University. He worked for the State of North Carolina as a parole officer, a probation parole officer; then a parole hearing officer until retirement. Following his retirement he was Veterans Service Officer in Brunswick County, N.C., where he helped many veterans. He was a member of Franklin VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 994. He was past commander of VFW Post in Supply, N.C. and senior vice-commander of VFW Post 7339 in Franklin. He was a very active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife of 42 years, Rebecca Wetta Yoder, he is survived by two sisters, Betty Gilliam and Frances Yoder both of Hendersonville, N.C. and a brother, Bill Yoder of Charlotte, N.C.

Funeral mass was held Monday, Sept. 24, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Tien Duong officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Franklin VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 preformed military graveside rites. Pallbearers were members of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 994.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 299 Maple Street, Franklin, NC 28734.

Paul Ervin ConleyPaul Ervin Conley

Paul Ervin Conley, 66, of Franklin, passed away on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Joseph L. Conley and Hattie Mae Collier Conley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Conley Grant. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing.

He is survived by two children, Dewayne Smith and wife Christie and Brandy Conley both of Franklin; sister, Sallie Conley Manus and husband Kenneth of Young Harris, Ga.; two brothers, Turner Conley Sr. and wife Connie of Franklin and David Conley Sr. of Franklin; grandson, Tyler Smith and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Thursday, Sept. 20, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Dryman and Rev. Frank Rodriguez officiated. Burial was in Maidens Chapel UMC Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dewayne Smith, Russell Dalrymple, Sandy Swafford, Rodney Bryant, Barry Bryant and Jerry Stillwell.

Marie Crisp Corbin, 94, of Franklin, passed away on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late George Franklin Crisp and Emma Edith Corbin Crisp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Jackson Corbin and five brothers and sisters, Helen Taylor, Ila Mae Sorrells, Frank L. Crisp, Grady Crisp and Edith Kell. She loved flowers and enjoyed baking and quilting. She was a member of Mtn. Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Patsy Nell Corbin Sellers and husband Billy of Franklin; three sons, Lowell Thomas “Tommy” Corbin Sr. and wife Willie of Woodstock, Ga., Roy Pinkney Corbin and wife Wanda of Franklin and Eddie Jackson Corbin Sr. and wife Dolly of Saluda, N.C.; a brother, Roy Crisp of Franklin; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 23, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Morris Tippett officiated. Burial was in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ruth Bowers Brown, 88, of Franklin, passed away on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Savalia Bowers and Ziddie Houston Bowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John “Carl” Brown Sr., who died Sept. 4, 2007, and seven brothers and sisters, Charlie Bowers, Lelia Bowers, Addie Mae Williams, Joe Bowers, Cora Dean Bowers, Dora Bowers and Gladys Conner. She enjoyed crafts, canning, gardening and reading cook books. She was a member of Sugarfork Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, John C. Brown and wife Terry of Franklin; two grandsons, Jason Curtis Brown and Nathan Carl Brown and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 24, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Rick Potts officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jason Brown, Nathan Brown, Wayne English and Jimmy Hall.

Frank Edgar Henson Jr., 76, of Cashiers, N.C., passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012.

Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Frank E. Henson and Edith Norton Henson. He was owner and operator of Henson Cabinet and Woodworking and member of Cashiers Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying deer hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles. He loved talking on his CB radio. He was a retired volunteer for the Glenville/Cashiers Rescue Squad after more than 25 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn Hunter Henson; four children, Patricia Villarreal and husband Felix of Cashiers, Angie Biller and husband Glen of Cullowhee, James Barry Henson and wife Karen of Cashiers and Sabrina Rogers and husband Dan of Franklin; three brothers, T.R. Henson of Apopka, Fla., Marshall Henson of Franklin and Charles Henson of Cashiers; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Cashiers Baptist Church. Rev. Scottie Patrick, Rev. Bill Rogers and Rev. Lewis Smith officiated. Burial was in the Norton Community Cemetery on Norton Road, Cashiers, N.C.

Pallbearers were Fabian Villarreal, Jonathan Villarreal, Cody Biller, Devin Nordan, Brandon Henson and Charles Henson Jr.

Matthew Ryan HodginMatthew Ryan Hodgin

Matthew Ryan Hodgin, 20, of Franklin, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of Barbara Trammel and the late Danny "Red" Hodgin, who died Nov. 20, 2011. Matt graduated from Franklin High School in 2010. He loved being outdoors, hiking and four wheeling. He enjoyed playing X-Box and hanging out with his friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Odell Hodgin and Mary Ledford Hodgin; maternal grandmother, Frances Earline Cruse; two brothers, Chris and Justin Hodgin both of Franklin; two nephews, Aiden and Tyler Hodgin and many special friends and family.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Jeff Seeger and Rev. Don Moffitt will officiate. Burial will be in Hodgin Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Palmer Ramsey, Seth White, Josh Gregory, Jonathan Moore, Dale Dallman and Travis Waldroop.

Everette Willard MillerEverette Willard Miller

Everette Willard Miller, 74, of Scaly Mountain, passed away on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Jesse L. Miller and Minnie Ethel Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Edwin Miller and sister, Lexie Miller. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Army after 24 years and served during Operation Desert Storm. He retired from Fruit of the Loom after 47 years as a Lead Waste Water Operator. He volunteered with the Macon County Election Board, was a former member of Scaly Mtn Fire Department board of directors, was a life-member of VFW and American Legion and was a member of Scaly Mtn Church of God for over 50 years where he served as church clerk for over 30 years. He enjoyed farming and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emma McConnell; four children, Martha Jane York and husband Greg of Long Creek, S.C., Karen Lynn Kilby and husband Gary of Tiger, Ga., Everette Ray Miller and wife Angela of Scaly Mtn, N.C. and Brian Willard Miller of Scaly Mtn, N.C.; a brother and two sisters, Richard Miller, Ruby Vinson and Elizabeth McConnell all of Scaly Mtn, N.C.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Scaly Mtn. Church of God. Rev. Al Sizemore and Rev. Conner Lambert will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Wade Virgil Gibson, 63, of Franklin, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Harley Gibson and Lesa Roper Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Morris Gibson who died in 2006. He loved old cars, driving and going to car shows. He enjoyed collecting caps, model cars and wood working. He was a member of Iotla Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Woodall O’Connor and husband John of Franklin; four sisters, Doris Dow and husband Joe of Palmetto, Fla., Dale Sisti and husband Joe of Franklin, Gale Thomas and Wayne Stamey of Franklin and Glenda Hughes and husband Chris of Clayton, Ga.; brother, Judson “Jud” Gibson of Franklin; two grandchildren, Travis Woodall and Carmen Woodall Price; three great-grandchildren, Kaylie Woodall, Daymn Owen Price and Chase Woodall and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service were Friday, Sept. 21, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. David Lee Williams officiated. Burial was in Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery.
