Damien Isaac HeaterDamien Isaac Heater

Damien Isaac Heater, 15, of Franklin, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012.

He is survived by his mother, Laura and step-father, Joe Deppe; his father, Michael and stepmother, Leslie Heater; three brothers, Justin Heater, Max and Lucas Deppe and two sisters, Thia Foster and Tesslyn Heater; paternal grandfather, Rudi Heater; paternal grandparents, Randy and Donna Wolfe; paternal great-grandmother, Norma Irons; step-grandparents, Walt and Judy Deppe and Mac and Emma Lou Bryant. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James Ronald Harper and Peggy Deitz. Damien was an active member of the FHS Band (Sophomore, Baritone), Macon County 4-H and an avid reader. He enjoyed playing video and board games with his family, disc golf, cooking, playing racquetball and archery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Macon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the FHS Band or Book Harvest NC.

Matt David FritzMatt David Fritz

Matt David Fritz, 44, of Franklin, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012.

Born in Jacksonville, N.C., he was the son of David Paul Fritz and Sue Ann Smothers. He worked at Macon Middle School as ISS coordinator and was a member of the MMS football and baseball coaching staff. He was an avid sports fan; especially the Minnesota Vikings. He will be remembered as a loving son, husband and father. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his step-father, Tommy Smothers of Franklin; three children, Austin Haverkost and wife Chandra of Owatonna, Minn., Chanz Joshua Fritz and Zak David Fritz both of Franklin; brother, Jason Fritz of Winterpark, Fla.; grandson, Bryce Haverkost and one niece and one nephew.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Greg Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Macon Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations can be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church Brotherhood.

Geneva Carol Payne Ward

Geneva “Jenny” Carol Payne Ward, 75, of Mt. Blanchard passed away at 6:18 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. She was born on May 10, 1937, to the late Clay and Ellie (Leadford) Payne in Franklin, N.C. She married Loris E. Ward on Jan. 13, 1984, and he survives. She was a homemaker and loved to dance, read, garage sales, flea markets, and picture painting.

She is also survived by son, Freddie Scarlett of Franklin; daughters: Shelia Sturgeon of Ft. Payne, Ala. and Donna Haynes of Cedar Bluff, Ala.; stepson, Dennis (Sherri) Ward of Arlington, Ohio; stepdaughter, Linda Obosla of Acworth, Ga.; half brother Kyle Payne of Otto, N.C.; half sister, Hazel Stamey of Franklin; one grandson; four granddaughters; five great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson; one granddaughter and her spouse; and one great-granddaughter.

All local arrangements being handled by and entrusted to Crates Funeral Home, Arlington, Ohio. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 29, at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. Rev. Janet Greene officiated and burial followed in Union United Methodist Cemetery, Franklin. Memorials may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice.

Colter Reece Owens

Colter Reece Owens, infant son of Amber “Nikki” Owens, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Delainey Nichole Owens, a brother, Daggar Vincent Owens; maternal grandparents, Yvette and Michael Tiger, paternal grandparents, Dennis and Sandra Owens, maternal great-grandmother, Yvonne Barron, a number of aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Bonnie Lee “BB” Barron.

Funeral services was held Saturday, Sept. 29, at Blue Valley Baptist Church, with Rev. Oliver Rice officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Lois H. McNabbLois H. McNabb

Lois H. McNabb, 95, of Murphy, N.C., died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, in a Murphy care facility. She was a native of Macon County but moved to Cherokee County in 1939. She was a 1936 graduate of Western Carolina Teacher’s College. She taught for two years at Buck Creek in Macon County and later taught first through third grades at Friendship School. In 1949, she began teaching third grade at Hiwassee Dam School, where she taught until her retirement in 1960. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, G.A.s and worked in WMU. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower garden.

She was the daughter of the late Charles and Annie Keener Henderson, and wife of the late, Truman L. McNabb, who died Sept. 9, 1991. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are a daughter, Jackie M. Gilbreath and husband Bob of Murphy; a son, T.L. McNabb and wife Sue of Murphy; four grandchildren, Pat McNabb, Pam M. Pressley, and Chip and Chris Gilbreath, and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 22, in Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. John Coleman officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Pat McNabb, Phil Pressley, Chip and Chris Gilbreath, and Chad and Daniel McNabb.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Lois H. McNabb to the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 186 Friendship Church Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
