Ruby Inez McMahan BradleyRuby Inez McMahan Bradley

Ruby Inez McMahan Bradley, 83, was called home to heaven on May 9, 2013, from her home at 103 Bidwell Street, Franklin, N.C., after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late John R. McMahan and Hattie Jones McMahan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Bradley; brother, John McMahan Jr. and sister, Lucy McMahan. She was a graduate of Webster High in Jackson County and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin. She retired from People’s Department Store after 47 years of service.

She is survived by three brothers, Corsey McMahan and wife Magdalene, Grover McMahan and wife Evelyn and Bobby McMahan and wife Ethel all of Jackson County; one sister, Mildred Ann Carver of Franklin who was also her caregiver for the past 12 years; sister-in-law, Betty McMahan of Franklin; several nieces and nephews and three very special cousins, Phyllis, June and Bill Fox all of Sylva.

Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Victory Baptist Church. Rev. Rusty Wolfrey, Rev. Benny Bagwell and Rev. Eddy Ledford will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Sam McMahan, Steve McMahan, David McMahan, Bill Fox, Howard Patton and Jason Lavigne.

Marilyn Grace HogueMarilyn Grace Hogue

Marilyn Grace Hogue, 81, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Thursday, May 09, 2013.

Born in Spotswood, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Orville Magee and Myrtle Stone Magee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Hogue who died June 28, 2006; brothers, Kenneth Magee and Melvin Orville Magee and sister, Elinor Boyce. She was a retired real estate agent and was a member of Community of Christ Church.

She is survived by three children, Linda Eriksen and husband John of San Antonio, Fla., Cynthia Hutchison and husband Sidney of Franklin and Christian Jensen and wife Sharon of Seminole, Fla.; brother, Herbert Magee of Franklin; two sisters, Edith Ferencze and Erma Butler both of N.J.; five grandchildren, Sherri Eriksen, Chris Eriksen, Michelle Hutchison, Valerie Castello and John J. Lee; one great-grandson, Justin Hutchison; two great-great grandchildren, Devin Hutchison and Dominic Hutchison and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Monday, May 13, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. George Mechling and Rev. Albert Grey officiated. Burial was in the Rush Cemetery.

Arbutus Elizabeth Shuler

Arbutus Elizabeth Shuler, 85, of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Norman G. Clampitt and Pearl Cochran Clampitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Clampitt, Eugene Clampitt and two sisters, Gertrude Ledford and Vergie Baldwin. She was a member of Iotla Baptist Church; member of the Berean Bible Class and was a great cook and gardener.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Marselle Shuler; son, Jim Shuler and Ginny Hess of Franklin; granddaughter, Amanda Peterson and husband Gabe of Whittier; sister, Hazel Gwaltney of Johnson City, Tenn.; two step-grandchildren, James and Eric Shuler; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Monday, May 13, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves and Dr. Simeon Martin officiated. Burial was in the Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Weaver Shuler, Donnie Holden, Charles Swafford, Jamie Shuler, Bucky Asby, Bob Hess, Jerry Sanders and Gabe Peterson.

Marsha Ann Holland MasonMarsha Ann Holland Mason

Marsha Ann Holland Mason, age 60, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Denver and Delton Jennings Holland. She was a loving wife and mother. She loved flowers and reading, and she was a member of Sugarfork Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Gene Mason; two sons, Jeffrey Eugene Mason and Travis Scott Mason both of Franklin; two sisters, Audrey Cook of Franklin and Bernice Penley of Gastonia and one brother, Bryant Holland of Franklin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Caldwell.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 11, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Rogers and Rev. Steve Reeves officiating.

Marianne BaconMarianne Bacon

Marianne Bacon, 87, of Franklin, N.C., formerly of Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013.

Born in Harrisonburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles W. Breeden and Frances Macomb Breeden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin D. Bacon, Jr. She was a member of First Alliance Church, was an avid golfer, enjoyed reading and loved her family and dachshund dogs.

She is survived by her son, Barry Bacon and wife Karen of Franklin; sister, Evelyn Ferrin of Tampa, Fla.; brother, James “Jack” Gills of Columbus, Miss.; two grandchildren, Elise Bacon and fiancé Walter Dailey of Franklin and Jennifer Barbour and husband Scott of Fletcher, N.C.; one great-grandson, Elijah Barbour; step-grandson, Andy Alligood and wife Holly of Franklin and stepgranddaughter, Jessica Alligood of Franklin.

Funeral service was held Saturday, May 11, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves officiated. Burial was in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

Villa Mae Dills ManeyVilla Mae Dills Maney

Villa Mae Dills Maney, 83, of Franklin, N.C., went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2013. She was born May 4, 1930 in Cartoogechaye to the late Judson and Jane Pendergrass Dills. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. David Maney; a daughter, Carolyn Peek; three brothers, Beachard, Halen and Teddy; and four sisters, Parilee, Arzelie, Beatrice and Launa. She was a loving mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother. She was a member of the Franklin Church of God.

She is survived by a daughter, JoAnn Case and her husband, Jim; a son, Steve Maney and his wife, Nancy; five grandchildren, Christopher Peek, Jeremy Maney, Amanda Maney Downs, Jamey Case and Janell Case; five great-grandchildrn; Sydney, Madison, Maggie, Callie and Nicholas; one brother, Marshall Dills and one sister, Betty Jean Miller.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 15, at the Franklin Church of God, with Rev. Thurman Jenkins, Rev. Tim Hayes, Rev. Don Moffitt and Rev. Phillip Cochran officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Christopher Peek, Jeremy Maney, Jamey Case, Howell Downs, Kevin Watson and Randy Gibbs.

William ‘Bill’ Thomas Mann

William “Bill” Thomas Mann died on May 13, 2013, in Highlands, N.C. He was the son of Cannie and William Henry Mann, born May 11, 1930, in Augusta, Ga.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Stringer Mann, married for 60 years. He is survived by his sister, Lucille Mann Byars, of Atlanta, and was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Jack Mann.

Surviving children include one son, Marty Mann (wife Julie) of Atlanta, and two daughters, Marsha Mann Perkins (husband Mike) of London, UK, and Julie Mann Riggs (husband Clarence) of Winter Park, Fla., and four grandchildren, Katie Mann Penland (husband Seth), Tyler Mann, Ryan Perkins and Sean Perkins.

He founded Mann Mechanical Company in 1968 in Avondale Estates, Ga. He was a Board Certified Mechanical Engineer and a Life Member at Georgia Tech. He also served as a board member of the Georgia Tech Foundation.

He was involved with many non-profit and professional societies, serving as board member of the Bascom Fine Art Center, The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, Hudson Library, Highlands- Cashiers Hospital and Foundation, American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

After cremation the family will have a private memorial service at the request of the deceased. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Bill Mann to The Bascom Legacy Fund at at Bascom Fine Arts Center, or The Bell Tower Fund at The Episcopal Church of Incarnation, Highlands.
