Helen Williamson McClure
Helen Williamson McClure, 88, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at a local nursing home. She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of the late Willie Wymer Williamson and Mattie Dills Williamson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, T.J. McClure. She loved to sew and was a member of the House of Prayer Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Janie McClure, Elsie Moses and husband Bud both of Franklin; three sons, Roy McClure and wife Ann, Elgie McClure and wife Mary and Harold McClure all of Franklin; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mae Garrison and Debbie Ann McClure; a son, Russell McClure, and four brothers.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 28, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Don Moffitt and Rev. Tim Hayes officiating. Burial was in the Hodgins Cemetery. Pallbearers were Cannon Jones, Blake Randall, Aaron Cabe, Steven Mc- Clure, John Garrison and Bo Garrison.

Michael K. Green
Michael K. Green, 55, of Land O’ Lakes, Fla., passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013.
He was born in Detroit, Mich., and moved to Florida in 1983. He was a partner at Saxon, Gilmore, Carraway & Gibbons, P.A., concentrating his practice on civil litigation and trial work, commercial, securities, and other litigation matters. He received his B.A.C. degree in 1981 and his M.A. in 1982 from Bowling Green State University. He attended the Florida State University College of Law, graduating with high honors in 1988, finishing ninth in his class.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lisa; two daughters, Katherine and Emily Green; parents, Paul and Betty Green; sister, Cheri Sheets.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 4, at Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church. Rev. David Crunkleton officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Raymond Michael Johnson
Raymond Michael Johnson, 53, of Ft. Myers, Fla., passed away Saturday June 1, 2013 at a Hospice Facility in Cape Coral, Fla. He was born in Fayetteville, N.C., the son of Raymond J. Johnson and Marlene P. Bolander Johnson of Franklin, N.C. He was a construction worker and had worked on a shrimp boat. He loved to fish and play golf.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his companion, Sharon Stoughon; two daughters, Rebecca and Destiny and a stepson Michael all of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a sister Vicki Angelo of Peublo, Colo. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Johnson.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

James ‘Jim’ Alvin Kelly
James “Jim” Alvin Kelly, 70, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013, after a long illness.
Born in North Bend, Ohio, he was the son of the late Eugene Kelly and Lelia Lozier Kelly. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, where he worked as an Intelligence Superintendent. He was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Adams Kelly; two step-children, Jennifer Vinson and husband Steven and Rebecca Adams, all of Florida; a brother, Donald Eugene Kelly and wife Sharon of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Sandra Kelly and Linda Uchtman and husband George both of Cincinnati, Ohio; granddaughter, Peyton Combs and a nieces and several nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Brandon Breedlove will officiate with military rites conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Joy A. McCollum
Joy A. McCollum, 75, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, after an extended illness. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Phil and Mildred "Tootsie" Kinnebrew Mc- Collum. She was a teacher in the Macon County school system and at Southwestern Community College, where she was also business manager for several years. She was a member of Clark’s Chapel Methodist Church since 1972, where she sang in the choir. She was an active member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, and a Charter member and treasurer of the Clarks Chapel Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years. She had a special interest in genealogy, and often assisted others in researching family history. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family, especially with her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy M. Holmes of Duncan, S.C.; two brothers, Tommy McCollum and wife Jean and Bob Mc- Collum and wife Elaine, all of Franklin and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother and her twin sister, Jean M. Sutton.
Memorial services were held Saturday, June 1, in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Vic Greene and Rev. Randy Perdue officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Virgil Stephen Mason
Virgil Stephen Mason, 69, of Andrews, N.C., passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at his residence. He was a native of Nantahala, but had lived in Dalton, Ga., for 16 years while working as the owner/operator of Dooley, Conseenee, and Dalton Carpet Industries. He moved back to Andrews in 1982. He was a member of the Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 529 as well as the Order of the Eastern Star Andrews Chapter No. 15. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved ginseng hunting and enjoyed flea marketing at Decker’s Flea Market with his friends. He also enjoyed beating his family in a good game of basketball. He was very much a family man.
He was the son of the late Fred William and Flossie Lou Ella Pendergrass Mason and the husband of the late Mary Jo Mashburn Mason, who died Dec. 4, 2002. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Mason, Hazel Pendergrass, and Maggie West; and three brothers, Coolidge, Sherman, and Frank Mason.
Surviving are a daughter, Shelia Powell of Dalton, Ga.; two brothers, Jimmie Mason Sr. of Dalton and Wayne Mason of Chatsworth, Ga.; three grandchildren, Christopher Powell, Kelly Bizzarro, and Peabo Powell; and four great grandchildren, Lacie Sangwais, Mikah and Grayson Powell, and Elias Bizzarro.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 2, in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with the Rev. Bo Phillips officiating. Interment was in Aquone Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 529. Pallbearers were Chris Powell, Peabo Powell, Jimmie K. Mason Jr., Mike Pendergrass, Jerrell Pendergrass, and Tré Mason. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 529.

Robert Joseph Newman
Robert Joseph Newman, 79, of Highlands, N.C., passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Edith Newman. He was a financial manager for Eastern Airlines. He loved camping and playing tennis. He was a past member of Rotary Clubs in Highlands, Charlotte and Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Elizabeth Lyons Newman; daughter, Laura Kupinski of Miami, Fla., two step-daughters, Elizabeth Lyons Scott of McCayesville, Ga. and Sarah Genevieve Guarracino of Asheville, N.C.; a son, Michael Newman of South Elgin, Ill.; a sister, Katheryn Burgess of New York, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Michael and Allyson Newman.
An End of Life Celebration was held Tuesday, June 4, in Highlands, NC.

Billy Gordan McCall
Billy Gordan McCall, 75, of Woodbridge, Va., passed away May 2, 2013, at his residence.
He was born in Franklin, N.C., the son of the late Bulen and Eva Gregory McCall.
He retired from Owens & Dove Excavating.
He is survived by his two sons, Jeffery (Tracey) of Greensboro, N.C., and Gorden of the home; grandchildren, Lauren and Jordan and great-granddaughter, Emerson; sisters, Rose Lee Bradley of Franklin, Marcella M. Ayers of Dallas, Ga.; brothers, G.B. (Eva) McCall, Bobby (Carolyn) Mc- Call of Franklin; sisters-in-law, Mary McCall of Michigan, Jackie McCall of Florida, and brother-in-law Robert Harris of Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille M. Harris and two brothers, Arland and Charles McCall.
A celebration of his memory will be held on the family property in Franklin on July 6.

Sharon Ann Tilley Pardee
Sharon Ann Tilley Pardee, 66, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013.
Born in Omaha, Neb., she was the daughter of Ralph and Estelle Koch.
A commercial artist for many years, Ann also worked as a dental assistant and a paralegal in Clearwater, Fla., where she lived for most of her life. Locally, in Franklin, she was a member of Trinity Assembly of God church.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Dr. Karl Pardee; her son, Reade Tilley of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and her daughter Cindy Gabory of Clearwater, Fla. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara Armstrong, and a brother, Ralph Koch, Jr., both of Omaha, Neb.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home Thursday, June 6, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
