Carl Kenneth Floyd Jr., 2, of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013.

He was the son of Carl K. Floyd Sr. and Jessica Rogers of Franklin. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, McKenzi Floyd of Sevierville, Tenn.; paternal grandparents, Lueann Jenkins and Fred Floyd; maternal grandparents, Dorothy Rogers and Jack and Jackie Hurst and paternal great-grandfather, Carlos “Shotgun” Jenkins.

The family received friends Wednesday, June 26, at Macon Funeral Home.

Willie Mae Tallent RoperWillie Mae Tallent Roper

Willie Mae Tallent Roper, 89, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013, at her residence. She was born May 29, 1924, in Jackson County to the late John and Nancy Pickens Griffin. She was first married to Samuel Eugene Tallent who passed away in 1983, second to R. L. Roper who passed away in 2010. She was a homemaker and a member of Windy Gap Baptist Church. She liked gardening, canning and freezing.

She is survived by a stepson, Ronnie Roper and wife Loretta of Franklin; brother-in-law C. B. Roper and wife Marilyn of Franklin, four step-grandchildren, Krystal, Kasey, Troy and Kaitlynn Roper and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 2, at Windy Gap Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Bishop and Rev. Lloyd Fish officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Carl G. HughesCarl G. Hughes

Carl G. Hughes, 72, of Franklin, N.C., passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013.

Born in Aiken, S.C., he was the son of the late Perry Collis Hughes and Leila Corine DuBose. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Barbara, Jennie and Carolyn. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served during the Vietnam War and was an active member of the American Society for Microbiology.

He is survived by his wife, Rosaland Hughes of Cumming, Ga.; daughter, Jennifer Hughes Crager and husband Andrew of Cumming; sister, Alma McNeal of Augusta, Ga., and two grandchildren, Nicholas Oliver Meyer and Ryan Paul Meyer.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, July 3, in the Georgia National Cemetery.

William ‘Rusty’ Russell WhiteWilliam ‘Rusty’ Russell White

William “Rusty” Russell White, 58, of Franklin, N.C., formerly of West Palm Beach, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013.

Born in Goreville, Ill., he was the son of the late Charles Ray White and Juanita Murry White. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kelly Jean White, and a sister, Crystal Morrison. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He loved music and enjoyed playing the guitar. He worked at Wal-Mart and formerly worked at Zigraf for 12 years.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Waldroop White; three sons, Tanner White and Dustin White both of Clayton, Ga., and Nathan White of Orlando, Fla.; step-son, Matthew Waldroop of Franklin; brothers, B.J. Simmons of Pennsylvania, Eddie Simmons, Danny Lee White and Rodney White of Illinois and Pat Church of Franklin; sister, Donna Rea Duvall of Illinois; three grandchildren, Nolan William White, Jake Ryan White and Shileigh Elizabeth Kelly White and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 5, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Revs. Sherron Geiger, Jerry Guffie and Carson Gibson will officiate with VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 conducting military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Erwin Charles Rickman

Erwin Charles Rickman, 86, of Franklin, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013.

Born in Proctor, N.C., he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Rickman and Candice Olene Sawyer Rickman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Alen Rickman and grandson, Nathan Dills. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran and served during WWII. He was a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jo Bennett Rickman; three children, Barbara Ann Kniffen and husband Charles of Oxford, Mich., Stephen Rickman of Franklin and Caren Rickman of Florida; nine grandchildren and 23 great- grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday, June 29, at Snow Hill United Methodist Church. Rev. Donna Cobb officiated.

Jessie Duckett Jr.Jessie Duckett Jr.

Jessie Duckett Jr., 76, of Franklin, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013.

Born in Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Jessie Duckett Sr. and Rachel Clark Duckett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Duckett. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, worked at the Macon County Recycling Center and enjoyed driving an 18- wheeler and his motorcycle. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Morgan Duckett; three children, Erin Duckett and fiancé Rickey Collins of Franklin, Joe Duckett of Augusta, Ga., and Angie Hadden and husband Keith of Augusta, Ga.; two stepchildren, Kimba Nichols of Pisgah Forest, N.C. and Michael McGinnis of Asheville; brother, Bobby Duckett and wife Gloria of Greenville, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 6, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Matt Morris will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service.

Dolly Fay ThompsonDolly Fay Thompson

Dolly Fay Thompson, 79, of Sylva, N.C., formerly of Franklin, N.C., passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Jess R. Thompson and Ethel Buchanan Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jesse (Margaret), Bill (Alice) and George. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist her entire life and retired from CR Industries. She enjoyed reading and walking and was an avid UNC Tarheel Fan.

She is survived by a sister, Elisabeth Thompson Buchanan and husband Howard of Sylva; three brothers, Harry R. Thompson and wife Bea of Charcoal, Texas, Harold Thompson and wife Norma of Winston Salem and Doug Thompson and wife Pat of Franklin; nieces, Jean Carr and Jennifer Kelly, both of Sylva, Heather T. Wallace, Judy Bigonowski and Kim Burnette, all of Franklin; and several more nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two special roommates Linda Lawrence and Lena Garren.

Funeral service was held Monday, July 1, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Rev. Tommy Fouts and Rev. Guy Duvall officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Greg Wallace, Logan Wallace, Samuel Wallace, Wyatt Burnette, Jason Kelly and Chris Pressley. Honorary Pallbearers were Nick Buchanan, Kenny Bigonowski and Larry Thompson.

Jim GrossJim Gross

Jim Gross, 83, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Bledsoe, Ky., the son of the late Walter and Pearlina Burkhart Gross. He was a machine operator for a Formica Corporation in Cinicinnati, Ohio and was a member of the Coweeta Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee. He had served as a former Sunday School Superintendent at Newman Chapel Baptist Church and served as a deacon while in Cincinnati. He was a member of the Hoffner Masonic Lodge and a member of the OES in Cincinnati. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Geneva Bowling Gross; three daughters, Darlene Poth of Cincinnati, Ohio, Regina Ceron of Franklin, and Terri Blair of Cincinnati; one son, Dennis Baldwin Gross of Bledsoe; one sister, Janie Maddox of Nebraska; two brothers, Paul Gross of Smith, Ky., and Jerry Gross of Tennessee; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arden Gross, Walter Gross Jr and Frank Gross.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 2, at Coweeta Baptist Church with Rev. Davis Hooper and Rev. Vic Greene officiating. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Murphy, N.C.

Mary Nell LequireMary Nell Lequire

Mary Nell Lequire, 90, of Topton, N.C., died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at her home. She was a native of Cherokee County where she had lived most of her life. At age 17, she went to Maryland and worked for Lockheed Fairchild as tail assembly of WWII airplanes. For 22 years, she devoted her life to care of her disabled son, Danny Lequire. She later retired from Baker Furniture. She was a lifelong member of Red Marble Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Noten and Della Wright George and the wife of the late Carl W. Lequire Sr. She was also preceded in death by her son, Danny George Lequire.

Surviving are two daughters, Becky Baker and husband Doug of Asheville and Linda Bryson and husband Leslie of Franklin; a son, Carl W. Lequire Jr. and wife Linda of Topton; a brother, Richard George of Fripp Island, S.C.; and seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 29, in Red Marble Baptist Church with the Revs. Mickey Stewart, Darrell Dockery, and France Postell officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Russell and Daniel Lequire, Steven Bryson, Luke Baker, Reed Robison, Terry and Hunter Scott, Chad Stone, and Josh Horton.

David Frederick ChaddDavid Frederick Chadd

David Frederick Chadd, 61, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013. Born in Hartford County, Conn., he was the son of Robert Allen and Thelma Eunice York Chadd. He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Joan Marie Chadd.

He was a retired Captain with Fulton County Sheriff’s Department and was a member of Macon/Jackson County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #81.

He is survived by two daughters, Dawn Krupa and her husband John of Templeton, Calif., and Kimberly Chadd of Middletown, Conn.; one sister, Nancy Potvin of Enterprise, Fla. and two brothers, Robert Chadd and his wife Kathleen of Durham, Conn. and Jonathan Chadd of Franklin; three grandchildren, Vincent, Jacqueline and Audrey and a number of nieces and nephews who were very close to David. He was surrounded by good and loyal friends who kept him in good spirits for which we are eternally grateful.

Memorial services will be held Monday, July 8, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
