Constance Elizabeth O’NeillConstance Elizabeth O’Neill

Constance “Connie” Elizabeth O’Neill, 92, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013.

Born in St. Louis, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Nicholas J. Powers and Emma E. Montag Powers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. O’Neill and son, John Dennis O’Neill. She retired after 22 years from Bay Pines Virginia Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., as an administrative assistant. She was a member of the Heritage Bell Ringers and Chancel Choir at First Presbyterian Church and the Prime Time Singers. She was always involved in music and at age 16 she was in a musical with Cary Grant.

A Celebration of Life was held by her family of friends Tuesday, Sept. 17, at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Kim Justice officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund or Music Department.

Robert Arthur Boeger

Robert Arthur Boeger, 78, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2013.

Born in Warrenton, Mo., he was the son of the late Arthur and Helen Boeger. He was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard, former volunteer fire fighter in Warrenton, Mo., member of Union United Methodist Church and was a retired painter.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen Bellinger Boeger; two children, Rob Boeger and Janet Thomas both of Florida; step daughter, Pamela Parks and husband Ricky of Florida; sister, Betty Stratman of Missouri; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Cora Winona ‘Winnie’ CrawfordCora Winona ‘Winnie’ Crawford

Cora Winona “Winnie” Crawford, 79, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.

Born in Sylva, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Rebecca Mills Buchanan. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Crawford, who died in 2004 and sister, Carolyn Bishop. She was a member of Windy Gap Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Lambert of Gainesville, Ga., and Benita Snyder and husband David of Franklin; four sisters, Polly Jo Begley and husband Johnny of Knoxville, Tenn., Meredith Wilburn and husband Kenneth of Alcoa, Tenn., Shirlene Dyer and husband Gary of Strawberry Plains, Tenn. and Judy Hopson and husband Barree of Knoxville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Sarah Lovell and husband Stephen, Emily Snyder and C.J. Lambert and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Tommy Fouts officiated. Burial was in Ridgecrest Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Boyce Cunningham, Randy Cunningham, Ricky Cunningham, Chuck Avery, Lawson Raby and Kenneth Wilburn.

Ora Evelyn Cheek WykleOra Evelyn Cheek Wykle

Ora Evelyn Cheek Wykle, 87, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013. She was born in Macon County, the daughter of the late Will and Jane Sorrells Cheek. She was married to Frank Wykle, who passed away in 1970. She had worked at Burlington Industry, and was a member of the Franklin Church of God, where she was a leader for YPE and a former Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by her children, Ray Cheek and his wife Martha of Charlotte, N.C., Ann Johnson Iverster and her husband Edward, of Clarkesville, Ga., Howard Johnson and his wife Judy of Turnersville, Ga., Janie Wykle Waldroop and her husband Claude of Franklin, Eddie Wykle and his wife Sue of Lakemont, Ga., step-daughter, Colleen Wykle Philbeck and her husband Ed of Kings Mountain, N.C. and step-son, Everett Wykle and his wife Rebecca of Lenoir City, Tenn.; two sisters, Anne Sanders of Cornelia, Ga., and Helen Jacobs of Clayton, Ga.; three brothers, Jim Cheek and Jack Cheek both of Franklin, and Don Cheek of Turnersville, Ga.; 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Tilley and Margie Baldwin and four brothers, Sherrill Cheek, Gene Cheek, William "Bill" Cheek and Clyde Cheek.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Franklin Church of God, with Rev.Thurman Jenkins, Rev. Hank Conner, Rev. David Hastings, and Rev. Jewell Gaines officiating. Burial was in Union United Methodist Church Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

David Anthony ‘Skip’ Aadnesen

David Anthony “Skip” Aadnesen, 69, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 12, 2013.

Born in Chicago, Ill., to John “Andy” and Anne Horwath Aadnesen, he spent most of his life in California. He was a U.S. Marine and served in Vietnam. He was a security consultant with TRW for 23 years.

He leaves behind a wife of 25 years, Judy Painter Aadnesen; three children, Kim and husband Robert of Franklin, Jen and husband Ryan of New Hampshire and Eric and fiancée Crystal of Franklin. He has two brothers, Michael and Jeff of California. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Macon Funeral Home. The body will be taken to Riverside Memorial Park in Riverside, Calif., for interment.

Agnes Ledford Byrd Newhouse

Agnes Ledford Byrd Newhouse, 91, of Franklin, N.C., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Andy Ledford and Bertha Dills. She was preceded in death by her husbands, B.C. Byrd and Roland Newhouse. In addition, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Sherman Ledford, Hoyt Ledford, Vernon Ledford, Harold Ledford and Jerry Ledford.

She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Byrd Stewart and husband Larry of Waynesville and Annette Byrd Bell and husband Terry of Otto; four grandchildren, Allen Stewart and wife Donna, Amy Smith and husband Kevin, Kevin Bell and wife Jody, Daniel Bell and wife Sarah, and seven great grandchildren; Hailey Stewart, Madison Stewart, Ellie Smith, Brandon Bell, Blake Bell, Logan Bell and Cade Bell.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Franklin, with Rev. Janet Greene officiating. Burial will be in Swain Memorial Park Cemetery in Bryson City.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service in the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, National Headquarters, 6520 North Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2130.
