The Franklin Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of The Cowee Farmers Market located at the old Cowee School, now the Macon County Heritage Center, off NC 28N in Franklin. The Cowee Farmers Market will be open every Tuesday through October from 3:30 until 7 p.m. The market just opened mid-May, after much planning by community members.
Each week, local growers bring what’s ripe and ready. In addition to produce, there are plants and baked goods, wooden spoons and garden whirligigs, market bags and pottery, cider and lemonade. Local musicians provide entertainment and community organizations provide information and opportunity to join in their activities. A pet adoption day is planned with more to come. The market is both a local food source and community gathering place.
