For the third consecutive year, TekTone was awarded the North Carolina Department of Labor’s Gold Safety Award. Representatives from TekTone travelled to Asheville to receive the award from Cherie Berry, North Carolina’s Commissioner of Labor.
“All TekTone employees are to be commended for taking safety seriously,” said Betty Smith, TekTone’s safety coordinator. “A special thank you goes out to our safety committee for doing such a great job.”
The NCDOL’s Safety award is distributed based on two levels, gold and silver with gold being the highest honor. In order to achieve the annual safety award, Tek- Tone had to have no fatalities during the calendar year and maintain an incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for its particular industry group. “Not only does this accomplishment mean that we are providing a positive work environment for our staff, it also means we’re able to put those savings back into the firm,” said TekTone president Carlos Mira. “By reducing workers compensation claims and insurance premiums, we’re able to make investments back into the company.”
TekTone has formed a safety committee that regularly audits every department for risks. TekTone has learned that by performing these audits and proactively working with each department to identify potential risks leads to huge benefits.
