Shehnaz Adam, owner of Sylva’s Saints European Skin Care Clinic & Spa, took first place in Las Vegas for the Best Non-Surgical Body Shaping Enhancement category.

The competition was put on by The Aesthetic Show.

Adam is pictured above with plastic and reconstructive surgeon Jorge Perez, left, and plastic surgeon Andrew Ordon, who hosts the television show “The Doctors.” Adam said she is the first medical aesthetician to win the award.


Two years after Macon County residents pleaded with the board of commissioners to bring a dialysis facility to the community, the fruit of their labor was finally realized Thursday afternoon.

Citizens, elected officials, and medical professionals packed the new DaVita Dialysis Center in the Westgate Plaza from wall to wall to welcome the new and much needed facility to Franklin.


“Learn and earn” facility has more work than space.

Webster Enterprises, located in Jackson County, provides employment opportunities for individuals who have disabilities or financial disadvantages in Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties.

In the three counties Webster serves, the disabled population is estimated at 10,000 individuals. Through the work program at Webster Enterprises, those individuals are given a chance to gain real life work experience in hopes of seeking long-term employment in the work force.


Drake Software, a leading national supplier of professional tax preparation software, is expanding their call center in Hayesville. A new 10,000 square feet facility will be constructed in the Clay County Industrial/Technology Park and is expected to open in January 2014.

Drake Software currently operates a call center in downtown Hayesville. The construction of a new call center will allow Drake to hire approximately 50 additional customer service representatives and make Drake Software one of the largest private employers in Clay County. As with the current Hayesville call center, the new building will be linked to the already established call centers in Franklin and Sylva and provide access to the same benefits and resources.
