Venture Local Franklin's Cash Mob movement continues to grow as 45 mobsters joined in for the July Cash Mob at Kitchen Gourmet on Main Street.

With the pledge of spending just $20, mobsters of all ages filled the aisles of the store and made purchases to help in VLF's mission of supporting a locally owned business.

As part of the Cash Mob philosophy, Kitchen Gourmet agreed to "pay it forward" by donating 10 percent of the profits made during the mob to the Franklin Garden Club.

Angel Medical Center celebrated its 90th birthday last Friday by inviting members of the community into the facility for supper, tours, and fun. Outside, there was an inflatable jumping pit for kids with music filling the background. Inside, visitors could go to information tables offering services such as blood pressure and blood sugar checks. Others were able to provide smiles and laughs by painting the faces of anybody willing to sit down in the chair.

As part of the Venture Local Franklin (VLF) initiative, Macon County News is teaming up with VLF to highlight local businesses throughout Franklin. Periodically, MCN selects locally owned and operated businesses in a different category. It is our goal at MCN to work with VLF to encourage residents to shop locally and utilize the resources Franklin has to offer.

No doubt about it, food is the gateway to the soul. Food helps create the identity of a community, and Macon County certainly has its share of one-of-a-kind eateries. From specialty themed diners like the Motor Company Grill on Main Street to eclectic ethnic cuisine like Sakura Japanese restaurant on the Highlands Road, Macon County's restaurants offer a little bit of everything.
