The Leading Producers Round Table (LRPT) of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) has announced that Jeff Cloer of Wayah Insurance Group has qualified to receive the association’s prestigious Soaring Eagle Award.

The Soaring Eagle Award is the highest honor given by LPRT to recognize National Association of Health Underwriters members who have achieved the greatest success in demonstrating exceptional professional knowledge and outstanding client service. Cloer focuses his practice in the areas of health insurance (including Medicare supplements and dental), life insurance, disability income and long-term care. Cloer is an eighth-generation native of Macon County, a Franklin High School and Western Carolina University graduate and has earned the professional designations of LUTCF - Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow and CLTC – Certified in Long Term Care. He is also the president of the WNC chapter of the National Association of Health Underwriters.


Venture Local Franklin’s Cash Mob was at it again on Thursday, May 30. Its latest target: Anna Bedell’s.

With 45 mobsters, this was the largest cash mob yet.

Everyone who participated vowed to spend at least $20 and the store pledged to donate 10 percent of the night’s profits to REACH of Macon County.

Located on Main Street, Anna Bedell’s is a fashion boutique and interior design concept store offering the latest trends.


The Franklin Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting celebration for The Disaster Doctors. The Disaster Doctors is a locally owned and operated restoration company that specializes in speedy diagnosis, clean-up and repair after flooding, fire and smoke, mold and other damage. Owner Maury Burstein says “Getting back to normal as fast as possible is our number one priority. We have state-of-the-art equipment and expertise to put you safely back at home in record time.”


The Franklin Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon ceremony for Modern Barbershop. The shop is located at 183 Highlands Road next door to where Smoky Mountain Bicycles was located before moving to Main Street. After a 10-year hiatus, Steve Waldroop is joining with Jessica Keneipp and Laura O’Neill to reopen the shop. The original shop opened in 1961 by the Waldroop Brothers and was on Palmer Street.
