Working to make Franklin a destination for travelers, members of the Tourist Development Authority discussed several grant proposals and events that are in the works for 2011 at their last meeting held in January.

The TDA offers grants to help develop tourism in Franklin by supporting groups or persons wanting to host an event and by promoting these events with advertising displayed on seven billboards leased by the TDA.

Capital Investment Companies, one of the largest independent financial services and brokerage firms in the Southeast, announced its partnership with Nantahala Bank and Trust Company. Nantahala Bank is headquartered in Franklin, N.C. and serves western North Carolina and northern Georgia. Eric Gaddy has joined Capital Investment Companies and will represent Capital in Nantahala’s branch offices.

Nantahala Bank will offer Capital Investment Companies’ bank securities program to their customers. The program includes traditional brokerage, money management, investment banking, insurance and estate planning, trusts, no-load mutual fund management, retirement plans and mortgages.

Jeff Cloer of the Wayah Insurance Group has been awarded a professional degree in the field of long-term care, Certified in Long- Term Care (CLTC). The program is independent of the insurance industry and focuses on providing insurance professionals the tools they need to meet their client’s long-term care needs.

“Our agency is very sensitive to the needs of our community” Cloer said. “Many of our clients have experienced the devastating effects chronic illness has on their families.”

The Board of Directors of Macon Bancorp has unanimously adopted a plan to convert the company to stock ownership by offering shares of common stock to eligible depositors, as of Dec. 31, 2009, of Macon Bank, its subsidiary; to other depositors opening accounts after Dec. 31, 2009; to the bank’s borrowers; to residents of the communities the bank serves; and to the general public. The eligible depositors, other depositors and borrowers of the bank will have subscription rights (in that order of priority) superior to non-customer residents of the bank’s communities and the general public. It is currently anticipated that Macon Bancorp’s offering of stock will commence in April, 2011.
