Second generation State Farm Agent Amy Manshack has opened her doors in Franklin. Amy, her husband Scott, and their staff were joined by the Franklin Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting last month. Her three-year-old daughters, Abby and Haley, parents Wanda Wolfe and Sylva State Farm Agent Charles Wolfe, retired State Farm Agent Gary Jensen and wife Carol Sue, and various community officials were also in attendance.

Over the past decade, Bob Holt’s been renting vacation properties at two of North Carolina’s premier tourist destinations: the beaches and the mountains.

Since 2007, he’s been teaching real estate courses at Southwestern Community College.

Now, he’s written the book.

Holt published “The NC Vacation Rental Act: Guidelines to Compliance” in August as a resource for agents and support staff. He’ll be teaching a course on that topic from 8 a.m.-noon on Friday, Oct. 25 at the SCC Macon Campus.

“For 20 years or more, I’ve been wanting to write about something,” said Holt, whose overall real estate career has spanned four decades and five states (Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina).

Shehnaz Adam, owner of Sylva’s Saints European Skin Care Clinic & Spa, took first place in Las Vegas for the Best Non-Surgical Body Shaping Enhancement category.

The competition was put on by The Aesthetic Show.

Adam is pictured above with plastic and reconstructive surgeon Jorge Perez, left, and plastic surgeon Andrew Ordon, who hosts the television show “The Doctors.” Adam said she is the first medical aesthetician to win the award.

Two years after Macon County residents pleaded with the board of commissioners to bring a dialysis facility to the community, the fruit of their labor was finally realized Thursday afternoon.

Citizens, elected officials, and medical professionals packed the new DaVita Dialysis Center in the Westgate Plaza from wall to wall to welcome the new and much needed facility to Franklin.
