The Jackson County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) has launched the “Play On” branding campaign. Designed to attract target markets to the county’s unique attractions and amenities and to inspire the loyalty of existing residents and future visitors, the campaign includes advertising, marketing, public relations, social media, a redesigned logo, and a rebranded website ( to position Jackson County as a premiere tourist destination among outdoor enthusiasts. New social media channels include Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.

“The new branding strategy was developed to encourage travelers to make Jackson County the destination of their next outdoor adventure or vacation instead of a ‘stop over’ on the way to a different destination,” said Robert Jumper, chairman of the Jackson County TDA. “The ‘Play On’ campaign highlights the area’s stunning natural resources and other exciting entertainment options for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and mountain lovers.”

In May 2010 Angel Medical Center (AMC) explored a potential partnership between the 87-year old hospital and Mission Health System based in Asheville. After carefully studying the community’s longterm healthcare needs, the board determined that partnering with a larger, high quality health system could help meet those needs. In June 2013, Ronald Paulus, M.D., president and CEO of Mission Health, joined AMC President and CEO, Jim Bross and Jan Unger, AMC Board of Trustees Chairman, to sign the final papers to become an affiliate of Mission Health System.

After many years of service to Angel Medical Center and the community, the AMC Thrift Store will be closing on June 27. This store has been one of the main fundraising means for the AMC Auxiliary which supports a variety of programs/projects at the hospital. Unfortunately, the thrift store has seen significant financial hardships. With that in mind, the AMC Auxiliary Board, along with support from AMC administration, made the difficult decision to close the store and look at other ways to raise money for the Auxiliary.

According to Judi Longworth, president of AMC Auxiliary, many financial factors went into this decision, such as decreased donations, decreased sales, and the variety of other thrift store options in our community.

“I would like to thank the many fantastic volunteers who have given time in the thrift store over the years and the community for supporting it by donating and shopping there,” stated Longworth. Longworth also said the current thrift store volunteers will be given the opportunity to volunteer in other areas of the hospital as they are valuable members of the AMC team.
