Features Health & Wellness Mission Healthcare gets grant to promote organ donation and advanced care plan

The License to Give Trust Fund Commission has awarded a Fast Track Grant to The Mission Healthcare Foundation, a non-profit headquartered in Asheville.

“Its project proposal meets the Commission’s criteria to expand organ, eye and tissue donation and encourage thoughtful end-of-life decisions, including organ and tissue donation as a significant consideration in this process of advance care planning,” said Commission Chairman Ken Burkel.

The ultimate goal of the Mission Healthcare Foundation is to increase Actionable Donor Designations in Western North Carolina “through the development of an institutional ethos that increases the number of registered hospital employees that ultimately will benefit and save the lives of many North Carolinians as a whole,” Burkel said.

The Mission Healthcare Foundation (www.missionfoundation.org) will use its $10,000 Fast Track Grant to increase the visibility of organ donation through marketing materials that can be seen and used throughout the entire Mission Hospital system, used as a hospital orientation presentation for employees, create a video that explains the institutional commitment to organ donation and the action of registering to be a donor as an extension of advance care planning.

The License to Give Trust Fund Commission was established in 2004 by Session Law 2004-189 and is under the N.C. Department of Administration. For information regarding grant opportunities or to learn more about the Commission call (919) 715-3837 or visit www.doa.nc.gov/ltgtfc.
