Features Health & Wellness Second cardiologist joins heart practice

Laura Verde, MDCardiologist Laura Verde, MD, has joined the practice of Cardiologist Earl Haddock, MD, in the Sylva office of Asheville Cardiology Associates, PA. Appointments for Dr. Verde are now being accepted; she will begin seeing patients in mid-September. For more information or to make an appointment, call 828-586-7451. The practice is located at 80 Healthcare Drive in Sylva.

Dr. Verde completed her cardiology fellowship, internal medicine residency and internship at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine. She is a graduate of the medical school Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas de Santos in Brazil, where she also completed an internal medicine residency, and she earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research from Campbell University, Research Triangle Park.

Dr. Verde is board certified in internal medicine and board eligible in cardiology. She is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Echocardiography.

As a cardiologist, Dr. Verde will see patients with known or suspected heart disease and provide cardiac catheterization studies in Asheville when indicated. She has a particular interest in patients with ischemic heart disease and atrial fibrillation, as well as the particular cardiology needs of women.

“What I find most intriguing about cardiology is, that in my opinion, the heart is the most fascinating organ in the body. With heart disease being the leading cause of death, I believe my practice can make a difference in a patient’s quality and quantity of life. A wise professor once told me, ‘if you listen to the patient long enough, he will tell you what he has.’ I believe in taking time with my patients. With prevention as the best strategy to manage heart disease, I encourage my patients to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.”

A native of Brazil, Dr. Verde enjoys traveling, cooking and dancing, and is learning to play both the guitar and piano. “Western North Carolina is a beautiful area and the people are very friendly,” she said.

Celebrating 40 years of caring for the hearts of the mountains, Asheville Cardiology Associates serves Western North Carolina through its Asheville location and outpatient clinics in Brevard, Franklin, Hendersonville, Rutherfordton and Sylva. A member of Mission Medical Associates, the physician group of Mission Health System, the practice is comprised of more than 30 cardiologists and a support staff of more than 200.
