The Foundation for Angel Medical Center recently held their first ever road rally to rave reviews by participants. The event, held on Saturday, May 5, raised nearly $5,000 to benefit the Outpatient Medicine Expansion project at Angel Medical Center.
“We would like to congratulate our winners, Craig and Laura Doolittle,” said Don Capaforte, foundation director. The Doolittles were awarded $350 for finishing in first place.
“Berita Fox finished in second place with Ed and Jane Shatley placing third,” Capaforte continued. They received $250 and $150 respectively in prize money. Winners were judged on the time taken to travel the course without going under a specified time.
“Our participants received clues along the route to assist them in completing the course,” Capaforte continued. “The target time to complete the course was four hours and 45 minutes and the winning time was four hours 52 minutes.”
The 139-mile course wound its way through Macon, Jackson, and Swain Counties. Each vehicle was required to have a driver and navigator but many of the 15 entrants made the day a family affair.
“This event would not have been possible without the assistance of our sponsors including Drake Enterprises, Smoky Mountain Chevrolet, Wayah Insurance, and Macon Bank,” said Capaforte. “We’re very thankful for their support and the participants in the event.”
According to Capaforte, the Foundation hopes to make the Road Rally an annual event.
