Angel Medical Center in Franklin, has announced that Robert J. Adams, MD has joined its physician team.
“The leadership of Angel Medical Center is so pleased to have Doctor Adams become part of our team of physicians,” said Paula Altar, vice-president of Physician Relations. “He will be serving as a Hospitalist and brings with him nearly 40 years experience.”
Dr. Adams comes to Angel Medical from the WestCare Health System where he served as Hospitalist and Clinical Director of the Hospitalist Service.
“Many times patients are admitted to the hospital that do not have a primary care physician or are from out-of-town. That’s where our Hospitalists come in,” stated Bonnie Peggs, director of Marketing and Public Relations.
Because hospitalists are on top of everything that happens to a patient — from entry through treatment and discharge — they are largely credited with reducing the length of hospital stays by anywhere from 17 to 30 percent, and reducing costs by 13 to 20 percent, according to studies in The Journal of the American Medical Association.
Adams, of course, is no stranger to caring for patients. He received his doctor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1973 and performed both his internship and residency for the Johns Hopkins Program in General Internal Medicine in Baltimore, Md. He founded Sylva Medical Center in 1976.
Jim Bross, president and CEO of Angel expressed, “Dr. Adams brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge and we’re excited he has chosen Angel Medical Center as his new home. He is a great addition to our physician team and dedicated to our mission of providing compassionate and superior healthcare to all.”
