Features Health & Wellness MedWest to dedicate Trees of Hope to honor breast cancer patients

As part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and MedWest Health System’s annual Fall Fight campaign against breast cancer, the women’s imaging centers of MedWest-Harris and MedWest-Haywood are hosting receptions Friday, Oct. 5 to dedicate Trees of Hope to honor and remember breast cancer patients.

MedWest-Haywood’s tree will be located in the women’s center on the second floor of the new Outpatient Care Center at 581 Leroy George Dr. on the MedWest-Haywood campus in Clyde, between the Med- West Health and Fitness Center and the hospital.

At 1 p.m., a small dedication reception will take place, with breast cancer survivors placing the first cards on the tree. Light refreshments will be served. MedWest-Haywood Breast Care Nurse Navigator Johanna Dewees will be at the women’s center throughout the afternoon to educate patients and guests about the purpose of the Tree of Hope.

MedWest-Harris’ dedication reception will take place at noon at the women’s imaging center, on the first floor of Harris Medical Park at 98 Doctors Dr. in Sylva. MedWest-Harris Breast Care Nurse Navigator Mary Mahon and MedWest Chaplaincy Services Director Ron Allen will dedicate the tree.

Everyone is invited to attend the Oct. 5 receptions. Both trees will remain in place throughout October, and community members, MedWest patients and MedWest staff are all welcome to place cards on the trees.
