Features Health & Wellness AMC celebrates National Volunteer Week

Volunteers awarded the Lifetime Member Status are (L-R) Grace Hill, Mary Lou Hooper, Pat Matteson, Jean Williams, Jean Finch, Monica Beattie (new member), Gay Todsen, Susan Huggart, Virginia Fenn and Barbara MacNeil.Angel Medical Center recently celebrated National Volunteer Week by recognizing the many contributions that these important individuals make, year-round to the hospital.

“Our volunteers work in virtually every department in the hospital,” said Jennifer Hollifield, director of Volunteers for Angel Medical Center. “From hospice and Same Day Surgery to our gift and thrift shops, their countless hours of service are an integral part of our mission to provide quality healthcare to the community.”

According to Hollifield, Angel’s volunteers are also an invaluable asset when it comes to working special events in the hospital such as the recent Teddy Bear Clinic that hosted hundreds of Macon County school children.

“Angel Medical Center has approximately 160 volunteers and they have donated well over 36,000 hours during the past year,” Hollifield continued. “This represents an economic benefit in excess of $360,000 to the hospital and the communities we serve.”

In addition to volunteer hours, financial contributions from the hospitals’ volunteers and auxiliary were in excess of $31,000 for the past year.

These funds were utilized for the purchase of tonsil trays for Same Day Surgery, billi blankets for Women and Children’s Unit, vital signs monitors that are used on the floor, contributions to the breast health center, and to the outpatient medicine expansion.

AMC’s volunteers and auxiliary have also contributed more than $4,400 in scholarships toward the education advancement of the AMC Staff.

“All of these things demonstrate how the volunteers are an integral part of the hospital and our hospice programs and their dedication and compassion is unmatched,” Hollifield concluded.
