Features Health & Wellness Mission Hospital named Top 100 for record fifth consecutive year

For the fifth-consecutive year, Mission Hospital has been named one of the nation’s Top 100 Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, formerly known as Thomson Reuters.

The annual study evaluates hospitals across the nation on measures of overall organizational performance, including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability.

“Mission Hospital is honored to be recognized as one of the nation’s Top 100 Hospitals for the fifth year in a row,” said Jill Hoggard Green, President of Mission Hospital and Mission Medical Associates. “We are dedicated to providing quality healthcare and compassionate service to all the people of western North Carolina. Receiving this designation underscores the meaningful impact of our physicians, nurses, staff and volunteers. Their commitment and hard work ultimately benefits the community we serve.”

Truven Health Analytics is a leading provider of unbiased information, analytic tools and qualitative solutions for the healthcare industry. Truven Health Analytics uses objective research and independent public data to determine its Top 100 Hospitals, and does not rely on opinion or biased data.

“Our flagship hospital being named among the nation’s Top 100 Hospitals for five consecutive years is a testament to the superb care Mission Health consistently provides to western North Carolina,” said

Mission Health President and CEO Ronald A. Paulus, MD. “Mission Health is wholly committed to giving our patients the best healthcare in a patient- and family-centered manner. The Top 100 Hospitals award is just one of many examples of how we take one step every day to achieving our BIG(GER) Aim: to get each patient to the desired outcome, first without harm, also without waste and with an exceptional experience for the patient and family.” Mission Hospital was identified as one of the Top 100 Hospitals out of nearly 3,000 eligible hospitals.

The award recognizes Mission Hospital’s ability to achieve high-quality patient outcomes while improving efficiency. According to Truven’s annual study — based on analysis of Medicare inpatients over one year — if every hospital in the country performed at the level of Mission Hospital and the other Top 100 Hospitals then:

  • More than 164,000 additional patients would survive each year
  • Nearly 82,000 additional patients could be complication free
  • The average patient stay would decrease half a day
  • $6 billion could be saved
