Features Health & Wellness Cancer treatment center passes inspection with flying colors

On Thursday, June 27, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHR), Radiation Protection Section, made an unannounced full inspection of the radiation therapy facility of Radiation Therapy Associates of Western North Carolina, PA.

The office is located in the Macon Cancer Center at 190 Riverview Street in Franklin and is an affiliate of 21st Century Oncology.

The inspection consisted of a review of the equipment, physician and treatment procedures for patients receiving radiation therapy.

According to Dr. Charles Thomas, radiation oncologist, the Macon Cancer Center received an exemplary commendation by passing 100 percent with no adverse findings of any kind. Dr. Thomas stated that the inspector also gave high marks to the facility for receiving accreditation by the American College of Radiation Oncology.

The inspector praised the facility on behalf of the people of North Carolina for providing a high quality service to a small rural population using state of the art equipment.
