MedWest Health System celebrated the opening of its new $3.4 million inpatient hospice unit The Homestead with a community open house and dedication ceremony March 18.

The celebration included refreshments and tours of The Homestead, a new six-bed facility on the campus of MedWest-Haywood that offers specialized end-of-life care to patients and their families and is the only inpatient hospice facility west of Asheville.

Leslie Norris, DNP, of Riverview Medical Associates in Franklin, North Carolina, was part of the distinguished faculty presenting at the 2012 Institute for Healthcare Improvement, an International Summit. Norris will be speaking on EMR and transitioning from paper records to electronic. She will also take part in a panel discussion regarding technology improvements in medical offices.

Norris, a Nurse Practitioner for 12 years, practices at Riverview Medical Associates, part of the quality healthcare team of Angel Medical Center in Franklin, NC. She is also an Assistant Professor at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina.

Receiving her doctorate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Norris has presented at several medical conferences including: the Institute for Healthcare Improvement International Summit, Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistant’s FallFest and Spring Fling, Nurse Practitioner Associates for Continuing Education (NPACE) Primary Care Conference, and will soon be giving a presentation at the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners National Conference.
