It’s the time for New Year’s resolutions. In fact, 44% of adults resolve to lose weight almost every year, but almost half of those give up by summer. That’s why the pharmacists at Kerr Drug are observing Family Fitness Lifestyle Month this January, and urging families to get fit together.

“Everyone knows the consequences of inactivity and unhealthy foods but it’s difficult to break bad habits,” says Abby Reynolds, Manager of Clinical Programs at Kerr Drug. “It’s much easier and much more fun to get fit together and have family members support each other in becoming more fit and developing healthy habits.”

MedWest Health System has earned a prestigious, national accreditation for some of its most widely-utilized imaging services.

MedWest-Haywood in Clyde and MedWest-Harris in Sylva have earned the American College of Radiology Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Accreditation and Computed Tomography (CT) Accreditation.

American College of Radiology Accreditation is considered the gold standard in imaging services accreditation. The accreditation involves a thorough peer-reviewed evaluation to ensure nationally accepted standards are met. The process includes assessing personnel qualifications, continuing education, quality control, quality assurance programs and the adequacy of equipment.

This left county manager Jack Horton scrambling to fill the huge void left by their absences. When Macon County lost its emergency services director, Warren Cabe, to the Town of Franklin last summer, Horton did not have to worry too much about finding a viable replacement for him.

On Thursday, Dec. 22, Macon County announced the hiring of David Key, who has served as interim director of Macon County’s Emergency Management Services since early August 2011, to officially replace former EMS Director, Warren Cabe.
