The “Drive 4UR School” Program is back in Jackson County on Oct. 18. The popular program sponsored by Andy Shaw Ford of Sylva and the Ford Motor Company provides much needed funding for our local high schools. Proceeds from this year’s event will be used to supplement various programs at Smoky Mountain High School. For each of the first 300 test drives of a new Ford vehicle a $20 donation will be made by Andy Shaw Ford and Ford Motor Company.

Jeffrey A. Cloer, an eighthgeneration Franklin native, was sworn in as a member of Southwestern Community College’s Board of Trustees on Monday, Oct. 7.

An agent with Wayah Insurance, Cloer was appointed as a trustee by the Macon County Board of Commissioners to fill the position Melvin “Pete” Penland held from September 1997 until this June.

“I was honored and flattered that I was asked to serve in this capacity,” Cloer said.

Community involvement is part of the business plan.

The new owners of the Mill Creek Country Club are anxious to get started on their latest project. The Mill Creek Country Club will now be called the Golf Club at Mill Creek according to new owner Keith Munger. He, along with his brother, Tony, and Tony's wife, Brenda, purchased the property from Macon Bank, who held the loan on the foreclosed property.

The Munger brothers are from Macon County and Brenda moved here when she was a teenager. After college, the now married couple, Tony and Brenda constructed and managed golf courses around the southeast while brother Keith managed a network of Hospice Houses throughout Georgia and currently resides in Savannah, Georgia.
