By Marla Dalrymple Contributing writer An event of extraordinary proportions is coming to Franklin this weekend: Elvis is coming to town!At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, legendary performer Matt Scott will be appearing at the Franklin Fine Arts Center as Elvis Aaron Presley. Scott will be kicking off his six-city tour in Franklin. According to author and entertainment promoter Osie Jackson, this performance is “going to be as close to an Elvis show as you’ll ever come.” Ossie Jackson, who worked with Elvis’ manager, Colonel Parker, claims the performance will be a tribute to the King, Elvis Presley. Matt Scott began impersonating Elvis in junior high school because he wanted to emulate that “amazing voice.” Since 2002, Scott has been performing professionally as Elvis and has even appeared on the Las Vegas strip with The Jordanaires, Elvis’ original back-up group. And, as Jackson reminds us, “only the good ones go on to Vegas.” Matt Scott stands out in the world of Elvis imitators. In 2003, he was chosen to perform at an International Elvis Peoples Choice concert series in Montreal. Scott’s music has also been featured on Elvis Tribute Artist radio. According to Scott, “the greatest tribute I could give ‘the King’ is to leave audiences with the same feeling of personal connection and happiness. I would like them to leave knowing what an Elvis concert was really like.” Ron Blackwood, of the Blackwood Quartet, commends Scott’s Elvis performances, saying, “I have seen and heard many people try to sing and recreate the Memories of Elvis, but you, Matt Scott, are a REAL credit to the Memory of our friend, Elvis.” According to Blackwood, The Blackwoods were one of Elvis’ favorite signing groups and even sang at his funeral. Scott, who claims that “smiles mean more than money,” often performs for charity. This weekend, Scott will be performing with his wife, Elda, who once sang back-up for Wayne Newton at the Stardust Hotel. Tickets for this live event will be sold at the door for $15 or can be purchased ahead of time at the Franklin Chamber of Commerce, Nonny’s World Café, Ingles, or Wal-Mart. Fans are welcome to bring still cameras. |
