Thursdays at the Library will present Peter Barr, author of “Hiking North Carolina’s Lookout Towers,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4. The program will be held in the meeting room of the Macon County Public Library.

Macon County has the highest concentration of fire lookout towers remaining in North Carolina. Peter Barr has combined his love of fire towers and his passion for the outdoors into a historical and hiking guidebook to the lookout towers in mountainous Western North Carolina. He'll sign copies of his book and present a slideshow on the history, hiking and preservation of North Carolina fire lookout towers.

This program is free and open to area residents and visitors. Donations are welcome.

Thursdays at the Library is an eclectic mixture of programs by authors and musicians on topics designed for enjoyment and education.
