Jennieve Mason Woodard

Jennieve Woodard
Jennieve Mason Woodard, 84, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Buel Mason and Nena Dalton Mason. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Woodard who died in 2006; and three brothers, Carl, Jakie and Eddie and a sister, Mattie Mason.

She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and word search puzzles.

She is survived by five daughters, Ruby Kirkland and husband Ray, Shirley Hyatt, Beverly Mason and Kathy Woodard all of Franklin and Betty Gates and husband Bill of Sylva; three sisters, Kathleen Buchanan of Sylva, Drucilla Gregory of Kentucky and Frances Mason of Franklin; brother, Cardell Mason of Michigan; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 2, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Bishop, Rev. Tommy Fouts and Rev. Wesley Hooper officiated. Burial was in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Mason, Greg Mason, Louis Thurman, Chad Kirkland, Brian Moffitt and Frankie Dills.

Memorial donations may be made to the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Mary Wilson, 3110 Pumpkintown Road, Sylva, NC 28779.

Macon Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Gregory Keener

Betty Keener
Betty Gregory Keener, 80, of Franklin, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2008.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Pink Gregory and Martha Beulah Holland Gregory. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Keener; brothers, John Gregory, Roy Gregory, Ray Gregory and sisters, Estelle Kiser and Tressie Hollman. Betty was a member of Union United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Southard of Franklin; brother, Bob Gregory of Franklin; sister, Clarabelle Setser of Canton, N.C.; grandson, Hank Southard of Franklin and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 29, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. Robert Dryman officiated. Burial was in the Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Hank Southard, Travis Pendergrass, Mike Gregory, Chuck Klinglesmith, Gary Sanders and Dewey Elliott.

Macon Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Joan Mallory

Alice Joan Mallory, 73, of Franklin, N.C. passed away Monday, Aug. 25, at a local nursing home.

She was born in Camden, N.J., the daughter of Florence Elizabeth Ferugeson of South Hampton, N.J. and the late Edward Valentine James Sr.

She was married to the late Bill Mallory. She had worked for Walmart as a sales telephone operator. She attended Mt. Sinai Assembly of God Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Sharon Alice Dorsey of Tyler, Texas and Susan Marie McMullin of Middleburg, Fla.; two step-daughters, Charlene Abbadie of Middleburg, Fla. and Debbie Reynari of Hollywood, Fla.; two sons, Thomas Edward Barlow of Hollywood, Fla. and David Andrew Barlow of Franklin; two sisters, Phyllis Ann Noecker of South Hampton, N.J. and Florence Morgan of Arlington, Texas; Jack Christian James of Ferris, Texas. Eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Valentine James II. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Love Ministries, Assembly of God Organization, or to the March of Dimes, 6 Roberts Road, Asheville, NC 28803.

Eunice Stockton Moffitt

Eunice Stockton Moffitt, 86, of South Skeenah Road, Franklin, N.C. passed away Aug. 26, 2008. She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of Grady and Irene Stockton born on April 3rd 1922. She married Ernest Moffitt on March 16, 1939. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she was active as long as her health permitted. She and her family moved to Raleigh, N.C. in 1962 and returned to Macon County in 1980.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Eugene Moffitt of Hayes, Va., Tim Moffitt and wife Donna of Greensboro, N.C.; daughters, Sue Moffitt Calhoun, Judy Moffitt-Hinton and husband, Gene, all of Franklin; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Irene Stockton; son, Grady Moffitt; grandson, Grady Charles Moffitt; daughter-in-law, Margaret Early Moffitt; son-in-law, Bobby Calhoun; brother, G.R. Stockton; sisters, Elizabeth Williamson and Sadie Mason.

She loved her family, church and friends and especially loved to travel and go places; whether it be to a local camp ground with her husband, or on more extended trips. She especially enjoyed the times that her daughter Sue took her and Ernest to Florida and the gulf coast states.

The family will truly miss her always being there for them.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 29, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Don Moffitt and Rev. Vic Greene officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
