Doubles tournament a successful fund raiser for Franklin High tennis Print
Thursday, 18 September 2008

The sixth annual mixed doubles tennis tournament was held Saturday, Sept. 6. Sponsored by Franklin Lanes, player entry fees support the Franklin High School varsity boys and girls tennis teams. This was by far the most successful event for monies raised as well as number of participants.

Normally a three-day tournament, 19 teams took to the courts early Saturday morning concurrently at Franklin Lanes and the Recreation Park. Playing a 10-game pro-set instead of the normal best out of three sets, three divisions based on skill competed for trophies and prizes.

Unlike the June tournament, this is a mixed doubles only format. Many players from the varsity teams paired up with parents, siblings and friends for friendly competition. In addition, several seniors teamed up this year to compete. Two teams comprised of seniors battled in the B Division finals with an Atlanta team taking home the trophy.

Ed and Dana Bresnahan from Dillard, Ga., were A Division winners.
B Division consolation winners were Cody and Savannah Herman of Franklin, N.C.
B Division winners were Lou Cirlli and Lamar Moss of Atlanta, Ga.
C Division winners were Rick and Cori Sellers of Franklin, N.C.
