Franklin High School Report Cards can be picked up in the main office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays only.

St. Francis of Assisi Food Pantry hours are Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11:45 and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The church is at 299 Maple Street.

Macon Middle School Students that attended eighth grade last year and have not attended a parent meeting need to contact Pam Cabe to set up a registration meeting. Summer registration for all other new Franklin High School students will be held Tuesdays through Thursdays at 8 to 11:30 a.m. only until Aug. 12. The Macon County Chapter of the Western North Carolina Alliance will hold regular meetings to discuss current environmental issues that are important to the local community. Third Thursday of every month, 6:30 p.m. at the Franklin Office of Western North Carolina Alliance, in Town Square 16 Stuart Street.

Matter of Balance Class at the Senior Services Center will be held on Mondays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Senior Center is located on 108 Wayah St. Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. 159 Siler Family Meeting will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7, at noon, at Mountain View Intermediate School, the new school located just prior to the Macon Middle School.

The Exceptional Children's Assistance Center (ECAC) is a private non-profit parent organization and has served as the statewide Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) for North Carolina families of children with disabilities since 1983. Miller Talley Reunion will be held on Saturday, July 31, 11 a.m. at the Highlands Civic Center, in Highlands. All family and friends are invited to attend. Bring a covered dish.

Summer commencement for Southwestern Community College will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 29, in the Balsam Center Auditorium on the Jackson Campus. Some 97 students are expected to receive certificates, diplomas or degrees. Graduates include 45 in arts and sciences, 30 in career technologies and 22 in health sciences. Interim president Janet Burnette will preside at the ceremonies which will include a video tribute to the graduates.

The Mountain High Republican Women's Club Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Highlands Country Club in Highlands. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. the lunch with speaker and the business meeting begin at noon. The speaker is Sen. Phil Berger who is the Republican Leader in the North Carolina Senate. The group’s monthly luncheons and meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, April through September. The Macon County Guardian ad Litem Office is currently seeking Guardian ad Litem volunteers to serve as a child’s “voice” in Court. This is a special program that helps meet the needs of abused and neglected children. Call our Macon office at (828)349-2409 for further information or questions.

NAMI Appalachian South (National Alliance on Mental Illness) support group meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 486 W.
