News Highlands Town Manager terminated

Jim FatlandOfficials quiet about details

On July 6, the Town of Highlands terminated its Town Manager, Jim Fatland, during a closed session portion of a board meeting.

According to the Town Manager’s office had “cause” to let Fatland go, but no town officials will go into details as to the reasons why.

“There have been no new developments since the decision was made,” commented Highlands Commissioner Gary Drake on the matter.

Town Attorney Bill Coward, who is responsible for drafting the verbage of his official termination, was unavailable for comment as of press time. “We are hoping our lawyer will have sent word back on the matter soon,” Drake said.

Fatland took on the office of Town Manager in January of 2009 when the Town of Highlands transitioned from a Mayor-Council structure of government to a Council-Manager form.

At the time, Fatland’s starting salary was $98,000.

Since last year Fatland was earning $104,000 per year and was allotted $500 a week for automobile expenses, along with regular town employee benefits.
