News Wendy’s of Franklin broken into, costing thousands

Authorities in Franklin are investigating the recent robbery of a local fast food restaurant.

Sometime early Tuesday morning, Wendy’s of Franklin was broken into. The store, located along 441 South, has not ever seen such a break-in robbery, according to store managers.

“They came through the drive-thru window,” said assistant restaurant manager Carl Golden on Wednesday. “It looks like they used a pry bar of some sort to get in.” Markings and traces of yellow paint were found on the window, he explained. The late night robber then made his way through the kitchen and to the manager’s office where the safe was located.

Yellow markings were also found on the safe, which managers believe came from the tool used to break into the safe. The four inch wide steel door of the safe was mangled and destroyed.

“The safe was destroyed and they took all of the money out of it,” Golden continued, adding that the store incurred some substantial losses. “We actually had to replace the safe and borrow money from another store.”

According to reports by the Franklin Police Department, $1,600 was stolen from the safe. Along with the theft, the cost for replacing the safe, repairing the drive-thru window and manager’s office door, the store has spent several thousand dollars. Everything was replaced and repaired throughout the day following the incident.

“I was shocked. In Franklin?” said Glenda Carpenter, assistant manager. “They took $3,000 to $4,000 easily,” she said of the total cost of repairs.

Store managers have since beefed up the store’s security.

“Extra precautions for the employees’ safety and the store are being taken,” said Golden. “We are just happy none of our employees were harmed.”

Anyone with information regarding the incident is being urged to contact the Franklin Police Dept. at (828)524-2864.
