Last Thursday afternoon, Jan. 5, a two car accident occurred off of the Highlands Road exit ramp in Franklin.
According to Franklin Police Officer Dwayne Cabe, a 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity driven by June Conley, 80, of Franklin, collided with a Ford F-150 driven by Chuck Cocke, 50, also of Franklin.
Witnesses to the accident told law enforcement officials at the scene that Conley ran a red light and struck Cocke's vehicle. Cocke is an employee with City Plumbing and Electric Supply.
Conley was immediately airlifted to Mission Hospital in Asheville, while Cocke was transported to Angel Medical Center in Franklin and was later released. Conley was in critical condition at Mission Hospital over the weekend, and sadly passed away due to her injuries on Wednesday.
CORRECTION: The Macon County News was misinformed by law enforcement at press time and printed that Mrs. Conley remained in stable condition at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Unfortunately, MCN reporters were alerted post-deadline that Mrs. Conley had remained in critical condition and had passed away due to her injuries Wednesday evening. The Macon County News regrets the error and offers our condolences to Mrs. Conley's family.
