Emergency personnel responded to a single-vehicle accident involving a 2001 Nissan Quest minivan at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred on the Highway 23 Bypass in Franklin.
According to authorities, the Nissan Quest was traveling south, and for unknown reasons the driver lost control of the vehicle, ran across the median into oncoming traffic and rolled at least three times.
The driver was fortunate enough to avoid colliding with oncoming vehicles, but sustained serious injuries from the accident and had to be flown from the scene by MAMA (Mountain Area Medical Airlift) to Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville.
